Im going to need brakes soon . Manly just the front. Pads and rotors. What would you guys go for. I only have 34xxx on the truck so I think I'm going to just stay with factory parts but want to know what you guys think. Should I pay a little more and get factory parts or should I just save a little and go with some aftermarket brand. I want something that's gonna last and stop well.

Are you sure you need to even change them all out? I'm at 51K and was told to swap just the pads at 75K. But then again mine are mostly highway miles.

Damm, that's a long time on your brakes. I do mostly highway miles too. I went to 2 shops and they both said my right passenger side are very low and I checked and they were right. The drivers seem ok but if I'm gonna change one side, i would rather do both so there just like new you know?

Yeah I know that does seem like a long time but both front driver and passenger side still have a good amount of meat on the pads. Def replace both sides when you do it cause your right....if your going to do one, might as well do both.

Yup looks like ill do both sides. I'm thinking just factory parts. But then again if there wearing out at 33 k, maybe aftermarket is better. I don't even break hard lol

    wow....

i'm up to 81K on my pads.

i've been pleased with the factory wear/stopping/brake dust, so i bought a set to put on.....when they start to make noise.

Tell me about it. So much traffic in mass, it's crazy. There isn't a day that there isn't traffic. It sucks. That's why my pads are low. Plus Boston people can't drive so it doesn't help either lol.
Wow that's great. I can't believe It lol. That's good numbers for them. If only I could say that about me

60-70k miles is fairly normal for a set of front pads, depending on where you live and how you drive. But then there's the discussion on Boston driving...

I seriously doubt you need new rotors at 34k.

The two places I went to said they were gonna resurface them I think. But I figured since I wheel and like mud alot, I would just replace them and have all new parts so I don't have to replace it for awhile you know.

I would suggest aftermarket pads for sure. EBC "Greens" or Hawk EPS (my preference) do a lot better than the normal offerings.

Rotors are a toss-up. If they can be safely resurfaced without going under spec, do that. They will have a higher potential to warp down the road since there is less material to the rotor. I would replace them myself. Go with the stock "premium" rotor option that a parts house offers. Skip the slots and holes.

Nice pic on the shoreline there, do you submerge the front in water often?

I just replaced the OE brakes on my 2010 with 44K miles. The pads were about gone, I replaced them with Wagner ceramic HD pads. I just got the truck so I'll see how many miles I get on a set of pads, I hope I get better than 44K.

So why do you say to skip slotting and drilling them? I thought that was ment to help, no?

I was told that slotting/ drilling rotors were only for cars and trucks with lots of power. They say with us trucks and going mudding / wheeling, the mud and stuff can get into the wholes and crack them. That's what I was told.

Slot, yes. Drill, no. Drilled rotors are notorious for cracking under harsh (race) conditions. Slotted rotors, however, provided excellent heat dispersing compared to a solid rotor. You probably wouldnt ever heat your rotors up that hot, but they sure as hell look cool.

If you don't tow I say go ahead and just have the rotors turned. No sense putting new rotors at 34K unless recommended. I know turning the rotors will thin them out, but how many people on here have had problems with their rotors warping after turning them? Just remember that some aftermarket brake pads will click louder (clunk) than oem.

For the record, Drilled would more than likely be perfectly fine for our trucks.

Damn I'm at 85k on original brakes. And am just now starting to notice a decrease. They are on the to do list
