Yeah? I guess the MPG drop from a 100lb bumper couldn't be _that_ much

^^x2 to me aluminum is only for playing in the sand. if you ever plan to be in the rocks(which is waht you are gonna find in most the riding anywhere in the SE) the aluminum isnt an option...... less you want a mallcrawler.

So you guys would go with elite or relentless or something instead of a new stock? I'm busy convincing myself may as well spend a thousand on something awesome instead of 500 on stock (or 1000 if i got it fixed for me...)

i would... i mean if you are gonna replace might as well replace stout! and plus you can get your insurance company to just cut you a check for the cost of a stock bumper and that will take up a majority of the cost of an aftermarket. only thing that will be left is the wait time. i would think a stock would be more than 500? but idk never looked into it.

if all else fails you could look at allpro cuz i think they are carrying a few in stock now.

off topic, and random question, anyone know if the front mudflaps will fit on the rear as well? just curious if they are interchangeable.

Yeah, I dunno, relentless/elite look the best I think, and they're stronger than all-pro too...

$500 was my guesstimate for me ordering a new bumper and side panel that goes under the fender, and getting it painted, and installing myself.

I may be trying to keep this out of insurance, depends on the cost for his f-150. (Worst case on his truck should be a new rear bumper, but his is steel, so they may well pound out and repaint, who knows...)

    I don't think so.

aahhhhhh. now i see. um i honestly think you will come out cheaper with a plate bumper, think the paint will cost a couple hundered if not a little more and then the parts will be a few hundered and next thing you know you are gonna be at the price of a plate bumper without the protection.... but that is just my pov. ultimately its your pocketbook and your truck, you will have to make the final decision.

Having recently been through this whole shenanigan with my truck and my buddy's 4R. Here's what we found.

My steel bumper was dented in pretty good. New bumper installed, no paint, for the Tacoma was in the neighborhood of $715 parts and labor.

For his 4R, a new bumper, painted and installed was close to $1500. He ended up cheaper doing a demello offroad bumper, powdercoated, with lights, including shipping.

That's body shop pricing for labor though, so if you're doing DIY you can probably end up on the better end of things.

Good to know. Yeah, I'm guessing I'll owe the gentleman I hit anywhere between $600 and $1500. But my deductible is $500 and I'm going to hazard a guess that my rates would go up about $200/6 months for 5 years... Meaning that I'm looking at about $2500 in costs over the next 5 years if I go the insurance route.

... Suddenly paying the guy out of pocket for his truck and getting myself a new plate bumper looks pretty appealing.

Bill you can have my stock front coils and shocks since I will never use them again plus you saved me tons by letting us use your shop. Whenever my dad gets his truck from you I will give him the parts (which I might be the one taking him).
