I don't know if you SC guy's have heard but there was a security breach on some kind of tax mainframe computer and something like 3.5 million SS numbers and info with them have been compromised/stolen so check your credit records for weird transaction's.

anyone in the Raleigh area? We are considering a transfer to our Cary, NC design center. Hows the Cost of living? Is there any good wheeling in the area?

You say the COA is high, but what I can tell it is still much better then CA. Especially the Sacramento or Bay Area.

Guess i would have to quit wheeling and find something else to do eh?

yeah i was just being a smartass honestly. i would imagine it's much cheaper that out in CA. . . on a serious note, Raleigh is a great place to live. i just go to college here so it's not really where i "live" but i've enjoyed the past 4 years in it.

but yeah, cost of living aint too bad in raleigh. i live in an old neighborhood full of old people and college kids mainly. i rent a 2 story, 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath, decent deck, ok backyard, etc typical college house. it's 1295 a month rent. cable/internet, gas, power, water, all that split up + rent is generally less than $475 a head for me and my two roommates. so maybe that gives you an idea.

the industry, business, night life, etc is pretty good here. the school system (if you have kids) is a little up and down right now in wake county though. lot's of controversy with districts and where your kid has to go and all that.

but overall i love living here. summer time is hot, humid, tons of mosquitoes. winter isn't too cold, maybe 2 snows a year and that's that.

and about the wheeling, the "raleigh area" doesn't have much, but if you look at a 3 hour driving radius around raleigh, yeah there's some good wheeling.
feel free to ask any other questions.

    hmmm. that's pretty cool.

    and to forerunnerseth,

one way to think about it is raleigh and cary are very different. . raleigh is your center for a lot of big business in nc, universities, and north carolina's white collar kind of stuff along with charlotte.

cary for years was just a town beside raleigh basically. a very rural area in fact. then people started living in cary and working in raleigh. over the years the population of cary has gotten so big a lot of business has moved there to appeal to those "professional" workers and families. when i say cost of living in those areas is high, it is compared to the small towns within 30 minutes of this region.

OK, well the office is on the border of Cary and Morristown. I like the idea of more rural, but don't want to commute a long ways. This is still in the very early stages. The wife and I need to discuss it at length. Its a massive change with a lot to consider.

    it's Morrisville btw, but cool.
that actually is a more rural part of Cary anyway so you would probably be able to find somewhere close to your work.

but that's neat man, hope it works out for you.

Lol I've lived in Cary 20 years. Expensive it is. They're doing a lot of development though and housing is becoming much more available and cheaper. There are tons of townhomes around etc. now. Its pretty ridiculous the amount of development going on here.

According to the link I posted, Raleigh (didn't have Cary) is cheaper than Fayettenam and Charleston.

im amazed it's cheaper than fayetteman. charleston i can see. . . raleigh's got a little bit of everything though. it's huge. i have some friends that live in a farm house near cow pastures that technically live in raleigh. their rent is nothing. 5 miles away are the mansions that Hurricanes players and the like live in. so, kind of hard to put a number or make a true average on cost of living out here.

cary dude nailed it though, it's development madness out there. a friend of mines family used to have several hundred acres of farm land in what is now cary. people started moving in and they just sat on their land until the price was through the roof. sold most of it and now just enjoy their millions of dollars. no joke.
