Well honestly, something went wrong there. We usually don't pile all our posessions in a victims vehicle....just steal the air. It takes a little time to get used to being able to run that low. My first time out in really deep snow I was stuck all over the place as I did not trust to go below 10 pounds and was on about 3-4 feet of snow out of Maudlow. It took a good while before I really got comfortable with the idea. It took us a few trips to get Daryl to get below 15 pounds too. Now He goes in the snow like he is on tracks.

 

Hmmm.. But with alarger tire you also have more surface area to apply those PSIs too.

I don't think that fully explains it.

Rich, what brand and model tire are you running. I know your info says 34", is that a metric 34"s? 285/75-17 perhaps?

 

I am running a TOYO MT @ 285/75-17

 

I think that kind of explains it though because psi accounts for area. 8 psi in a 30" tire is less air than in a 36" tire. Granted psi is a force and the amount of force on any given part of the tire (assuming surface area of that part is the same between the two tires) will be the same, so I'm not positive that explains it.

How much does your Jeep weigh rich? I was just curious if you are light or not. Even at like 3 psi I don't think I stand much chance of staying very high in snow with my 255's and over 5000 lbs of Taco.

 

No..Digiratus is correct though I still can't explain it worth a damn...though I do understand the concept.

 

I considered that size for a while. I have a set of 17x8 alloys. I may go to that size on the next set once I get re-geared.

A friend had this size Toyos on his FJC and highly recommended them.

It was a nice middle ground for me. My former lift would not allow 35s and I wanted more than 33s. I may just go on up to the 35s for my next set as I can do that now do the to recent changes I made in suspension. I did not really want to go as wide as the 35s are but, if notheing else, may be better in the snow.

 

Depending on how much you want to spend or what kind of tire you are looking for, the Super Swamper TSL radials 36x12.5R16's are really only about 10-10.5" wide.

Obviously there are a few issues there for you maybe. haha, like skinnier than your 285's, are 36's and not 35's and a 16" rim instead of a 17", but maybe some of their other sizes are off like that too.

 

I am not a wide tire fanboy. I've driven a couple friends rigs that had 12.5" wide tires on them and noticed a distinct lack of feel/grip from them compared to what I'm used to. Don't really care for the fat tire 'look' either.

It seems like not many manufacturers make a narrow 34 or 35s. The size you have is about as narrow as it gets for a 34s. I would like to see a 35x11 mounted on an 8" wheel.

Ben's are too skinny. haha. Which seems weird because really they aren't much skinnier than mine.

I just noticed as I was posting that pic, that the buy date and print date are exactly 1 year apart.

Mostly I just reposted cuz I wanted to know what Rich's jeep weighs, and posted the pic as well for the hell of it. haha

 

Yeah, 2 cm isn't even an inch.
