    Fillup yesterday 454.9 miles 18.891 gallons = 24.1 MPG

I doubt i will hit 25 MPG again except for long trips. My GF passed away in early Sept. 85% of my trips will now be 3 mile trips back and forth to work, with lots of stop and go, and never over 45 MPH. The Ultragauge on these trips is like 19 MPG so far. Since the weather has turned cooler the truck only gets up to 160 F or so on my short trip. My average trip to her place 4 times a week was 25 to 30 miles of moderate speed urban interstate. That is why I always got great mileage.

Best MPG i've had in my 2.7l 5 speed was 27.0 mpg driving to Virginia--that was at 65mph average speed

here in North Georgia driving normal(in the mountains) i'm getting 23.8mpg

Nice part of the country you're living in!

I'm sure you can get 25 MPGs on flatter terrain, but a bit more challenging given your location. You may want to benchmark off someone who has similar terrain. Some of the gents here pulling the best numbers live in hilly sections, but also take advantage of broad plains that are also there. Take a look within the last few pages of this thread. I'm sure that there are folks with a similar vehicle configuration and terrain to compare numbers.

    Good luck!!

Driving the speed limit while leaving a good distance between me and the traffic ahead is very safe.

It's the 1/3 of the traffic that likes to drive 10-15 over the speed limit while tailgating at 2-3 car lengths that are creating the dangerous situations.

Drafting doesn't work for me, not safe and not as effective as simply driving the speed limit.

I would be able to pull 30 on Los Angeles freeways too if I had a manual and could shut the engine down going down hill.
    I live at 700ft.
My commute peaks at 1100, drops down to 400, back up to 1200, and back down to 500 or so.
Coming down into Glendale, and out of Covina into Pomona, would likely do the trick.
Even under normal power maintaining 65, I'll see the UG increase .1 to .2 on those hills.

Cold weather or idling = 2.7L MPG killer.

Both at the same time = incredible amounts of suck.

Agreed, both cold weather and excess idling are fuel economy killers. Not to mention that some parts of the country go to an oxygenated fuel blend during the colder winter months, which has less energy per volume than summer blend fuel. I've heard that other regions run the oxygenated fuels all year! WTH?

Idling... my regular commute includes a number of potentially long red lights (about 2 minutes each), where I shut the engine off if it's just turned red... contributes to my 24.7 mpg average :)

Mine is stop and go caused by one guy in a lighted intersection needing to make a left. Dammit.

I like getting my truck rolling with my little 4 and keeping it that way! :p

I'm still on my first tank of gas from the dealership! got about 50 miles on it and it has barely moved from the full mark hehe. Loving it compared to my 97 LT1 Camaro premium hog.

Mine is stop and go from the idiot hypermilers "driving with load"

One moron will "rubber band" 10 miles of traffic.
    40-stop-40-stop-40-stop-95-pass the moron.

Crap ton of stop-go around here. Traffic light hell. Idiot drivers.

I totally spaced on the challenge on my trip to PA. I did get my ever elusive "4" though. I was at 400 when I filled up, so about 440 miles on the tank!

    I can do a "4" without a problem... over 400 today, took 17 gallons.

I'm wanting a "5" but don't have the opportunity to push it.

Ouch, Rich!!! That could be me!! ;)

I drive with load, but I set the low end above the speedlimit. So since my commute is 45 MPH for most of the way, I set at about 48 MPH and will range between 45 and 53 MPH. I also drive offpeak hours so I don't create barriers. That said, there are always those that want to drive 10-15 over the limit. I suppose late risers since most of the tailgating happens on the commute in.

I usually ignore those that tailgate, especially when I'm driving 5-8 MPHs over the limit. When I'm late to work, I'm still usually 90 minutes ahead of when the shift starts. Folks are welcome to wake up earlier and slow things down...or safely pass me when the roads permit.
