Any tree experts? Is the rest of this tree likely to come down with so much missing off one side now?

Depends on what kind of tree it is, either way the wounds from where those trunks broke off, if they are not sealed the tree will most likely get diseased and die.

I used I have a massive 900 y/o oak in my front yard and when it would get off balance it would drop a limb on the opposite side. Kinda takes care of itself. Unfortunately cars, garages and bedrooms were not its concern when it decided to drop limbs that were 5' diameter at the base

I don't have any handy but ill try to remember to take some next time I'm up at my folks house. It's up in the San Diego country estates. It was the second largest oak in California until it had to be cut way back, no sure where it ranks now. It has a like a 19' base diameter iirc. There is a big ass custom 4' x 4' birdhouse hanging in it an it looks totally normal.

    .

First you have to try to cut the stumped off break area flat or flush, there are products you can buy at nuseries i think, can you post some pics of exactly where the limb snapped off at? I might be able to help you figure this out

I'll have to take a pic when it's light out. I think they are both pretty recessed breaks, I won't be able to cut off much if anything.

This is the second time a big chunk broke off this tree. Last time was a bigger wound at the base of the tree. This happened two years ago:

Is the tree a designated Champion Oak tree in California?

Ok post a pic when you can, the viability of the tree depends on what tissue is still on the tree. At the base of each limb is a ring of tissue called meristematic tissue (might be spelling that wrong), anyways, it's a ring of tissue that changes its function when a limb is removed, if that tissue is removed or there is too much of the stump left sticking out that tissue cannot form scar tissue to cover the wound and it will probably end up killing the tree either by rot, pests or disease.

Don't know, the arbor society are the people that made us aware of the rankings, we just thought it was a big ass tree until then.
