dust in cab while parked

when i park on a construction site (it is very dusty place) i get dust on my dash and console while parked. people tell me that it is coming threw my air vent. but i thought the cab air filter would stop this. is there a way to stop this, or is there something else wrong.

Mine passes quite a bit of air through the door handles. Dust could come in through there.

 

I have the same problem. Nothing you can do that I know of.

 

Do you have your vents closed, meaning the re-circulation is on instead of the outside air option? I take mine to the sand dunes and hardly get any sand/dust inside unless I open the windows .

 

at work the parking lot is gravel. I had a dusty dash all the time with my tacoma, and even more with my 4runner now.

 

I have dust that comes in through the door handles too and the door seals.......dealer said that this was normal and nothing they could do about it.

 

So what is the cab air filter for then?

 

It just filters the cabin air when on recirculate from my understanding.

 

It should be fairly easy to pull the door panels off and seal around the door handles better if that's an issue for you.

 

Not an issue for me any more but was definately an issue when the dust clouds inside were getting as bad as the ones outside.

 

Leave the recirculation on when you get to work that should close the vent. I've found that when driving down the road with the a/c off and the recirc. off you get a little breeze through the vent depending on where the setting is. I leave the recirc. on all the time when I'm not running a/c or heat because that little draft bugs me.

 

Leaving the HVAC set to Recirc will certainly rule out that possibility, but when set to outside air, it comes in through the cabin filter, so I wouldn't think that would be the source of the dust. The door handles seem like a more likely possibility to me - but I'm totally guessing.

 

I used to work construction. Never had an issue with dust in the cab... But then again my cab was constantly dirty when I worked so I probably didn't notice. Haha

 

the cab needs some sort of fresh air exhaust when the fresh air make-up is used, this may just be where Toyota decided to put it. This is also why from the factory they want the recirc off and the A/C on in defrost mode. Constant turnover of dehumidified air in the cab. This aids in better defrostability.(hehe) I modded mine so I had the choice on what I wanted to do.
