Anyone put a used police center console in your Tacoma? If so please post pics. I was thinking of buying a used police center console on ebay for my ham gear. I figured if I took out my center console with armrest I could mount the police console with my radios in its place. I figured that it might fit far enough back to allow for shifting gears without any problems. Anyone tried this?

I've thought about doing something like this. For Amatuer, CB, Scanner and 800MHz radio (public safety) and light controls for my truck. But the thought of cutting up my center console makes me cringe!!!

Oh no, I don't want to cut up my console either. By looking at it though, if you take out the armrest and cup holder portion of a manual shift center console it looks like one of the smaller police consoles might fit. The remaining plastic trim piece and dust boot around the shifter would remain in place. No cutting required. If it fit, I would then have to opt for the padded arm rest option to replace the one that would now be missing.

I actually looked at this this morning on my way home from work and you're right. It appears to come apart in pieces. Still not sure if I could do without my cup holders ... when you think about it you're losing 5! 3 behind the shifter and two behind the console. But if you get the right police console you should be able to find one with cup holders.

Ok now you've got me interested. Any ideas on what the dimensions are? I dispatch for a police department so maybe I could grab/buy a couple of consoles from them when they scrap the next set of vehicles.

I think you are right. I found a 14 inch long by 8 1\4 and I also found a 16 by 8. I will have to go out and measure to see if that would fit.

Any idea what you're going to do about your cup holders? Looks like they have to come out with the rear portion of the console. I even thought about fabricating mine, but that's going to be a headache if I do it and there's no guarantee it will look good.

LOL this is true we do have a great deal of cup holders. 8 bottle holders to be exact and 1 can/ash tray holder. I just think I may hate the inconvience of having to reach in my door every time I want a drink - as simple as it may be.

CSX - it just dawned on me what you were talking about let me know if I'm on the right track. You want to remove the console and the cup holders and then place a police console in and fit it inbewteen the protrusions right behind the shifter right? If that's the case, great idea. Just have to find a console that slopes down in the front so you're not digging for your shifter.

Yep, that's it. You can even add cup holders to it.:) They seem to come anywhere from 8", 10", 12", 14" and 18" in length. I have access to one and hope to sometime this week to give it a test fit. The one that I have access to is the 18 in. version so it will be a little long... but... it will give us an idea if it will work. Here is a link to one on ebay that looks.... looks .... like it would work nice.

Well, I guess we will know if it will fit in just a short time. I got one off of ebay for .99 last night. Shipping was $29.00 but hey I won the item cheap. This place has more of these consoles. If you guys want here is the link to their other items....

    http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/az-surplus_W0QQ_nkwZQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZQQ_mdoZ

    Sellers name is az-surplus.

Let you guys know how it goes when it gets here. Looks like it will fit if you remove the plastic trim panels on the inside (towards the tranny hump) of the seats. :)
