Tow Hitch Ball

Hi everyone...

My 2000 Prerunner came with the Towing package, but the tow ball/trailer ball is missing (or removed by PO).

Any idea where I can find a replacement or what the part # maybe? Is this a universal part?

here im gonna make life easy for you got to walmart and buy this package. the ball size you need varies by the tongue on the trailer.

any auto parts store or walmart will have them.

 

My mom used to work at a car dealer and said one of the dealer tricks is to keep the draw bars unless the customer specifically asks for it. Just another way to make a buck.

I've always been curious about these tow balls on bumpers without receiver hitches. Are these strong at all and / or what's their weight limitation?

 

Not necessarily. There's a plastic plug that covers that up as well.

My opinion on safety is . . . Don't chance towing anything less than a frame mounted hitch. Leave that hole alone and buy a frame mounted 2" receiver and put in the ball hitch needed for the trailer you plan to pull. Most receivers are pretty easy to install with 4 bolts and about an hour. It also strengthens the weak frames on these trucks. Too many accidents happen with trailers overloading a bumper.

 

My 2003 double cab has tow package and yes it should have class 111 reciever hitch and I also have 4 leaf spring pack.

 

Yep, no tow package so if the previous owner ever towed something he bought his own ball. You wouldn't get a draw bar in the first place.
