    Driving in Philly/NJ.

It's littered with cracks, chips, and scratches now. My truck was getting pelted by debris today. I know everyone always says then back off and stop riding people's asses, but they have no clue how people drive in NJ/Philly. Any room I leave in front of me is immediately taken up by some jackass cutting me off.

100% illegal in NJ to have a body lift.

next meet I'm crashing into you and suing your ass

also illegal to lift your truck at all without passing the "special" inspection.

    1) If you change total lift by more than an inch (higher) you will need to go through inspection again. However, you don’t need the full inspection. It should be limited to the tilt test and focus on wherever the change occurred (e.g. bigger tires. etc). I haven’t been able to determine what is required (if anything) if you lower your rig.

    2) Once you have been through high rise, its inspector’s discretion on going through future tilt tests during re-inspection. If the vehicle height is within roughly an inch of the previous inspection, generally the tilt test will be waved.

    3) You can only have a 'total' of two sets of auxiliary lights. So if you had 2 sets up front and work lights in the rear, you could fail. We’ve never had a problem (yet) with rock lights being included in this limitation.

    4) When factoring what the effect a tire size increase will have on total lift, there are three numbers to work with: Rated diameter increase, actual diameter increase and actual total lift effects.

In all the situations we’ve seen the actual tire diameter under load either equals the rated diameter or (more likely) is slightly less then the rated diameter.

The calculation for ‘rated’ diameter difference:

    • New tire diameter – Old tire diameter / two.
      Example: 35 - 33 = 2 / 2 = 1”
The only way we know of to get actual diameter is to mount the tire putting it under load.

    5) We’ve heard, but can’t confirm the following

    • a) Heim joints in the steering linkage can’t be used.
      b) Coilovers (depending on design) are acceptable. This is a discretionary call by the inspector. W’eve heard both passing and failing on this one.
      c) We can’t get a solid consensus on leaf over / under conversions? It appears more folks fail then pass.. This may (for whatever weird reason) fall under the ‘reconstructed vehicle code’ area.
      d) We’ve heard stainless steel DOT brake lines won’t pass. We have never had a problem with them.
      e) We’ve never had a problem going through with ACOS adjustable spacers. However, there must not be evidence that you lowered the ride height.

your reading it wrong. your truck is NOW illegal, as is mine. You need to get the tilt test as soon as your lifted not when your inspection is up.

    Your screwed......I'm calling the cops.

    Whats your addy again? :D

goofy ass NJ inspection for lifted trucks...

    they nit pick everything

luckily no NJ cops bust our balls for not having the documents. even my buddy's on 38's don't get messed with.

i think 99% of the cops are clueless about the lift laws around here.

I can only imagine coming back to the inspectors and seeing the truck rolled on its side...... "Welp, you failed out tilt test.... That'll be 79.99."
