Hauling dirt bikes or a ATV

Does anybody haul dirt bikes or a ATV in the bed often,like weekly.How does the bed and the tailgate hold up to this?Thank you in advance.

 

in the back of my tacoma and the back tires would sit right on the tailgate with out any problems.

 

I put my king quad in the back no problem, and it's a heavy pig of a quad, easily over 700lbs with everything. I have the proper 4 leaf rear springs, so no ride problems. As for fit, I have some 2x10's in the front of the box to stop my winch fairlead from smashing through my rear window, and all four wheels are in the bed with the tail gate down. It's a tight squeak between the wheel wells because of the oversize tires, but it fits well enough.

I wouldn't want to have too much weight on the tail gate, though. I'm confident that it can handle the weight load during loading and unloading, but I wouldn't want to drive too far with the tail gate bearing much weight.

 

I haul my BruteForce 750 4x4i ATV in my '09 DC SB TRD 4x4 with the rear wheels on the tailgate, and it seems to do fine...

 

No problems yet...

 

Just be sure you have the TSB suspension and the Tailgate TSB and you should be fine

 

I don't have the TSB on the leafs

mine bottomed-out pretty bad w/ the ATV before I had mine done...

 

two years and no problems yet, I haul the bikes all the time

 

Im just saying though. It might be different for motorcycles and dirtbikes.

Of course it's different with bikes and ATV's. Both of my bikes plus fuel and gear probably weigh less than a singe quad. However since the question was asked for either bikes or quads I put my .02 in

 

Loaded 2 full size bikes in my 2009 double cab this weekend with no problems (KTM200exc, RM125).

I set the bikes back about 3" to clear the rolled-up tonneau. The rear tires where also kicked toward the center of the tailgate because the bars where pointed toward the bed corners (so bars had enough room). Drove 4 hours like this.

Also climbed onto the gate (200#) to move the tires into position. No problems to report though I did have it in the back of my mind.

I studied the straight edge of the gate while it was loaded and didn't see ANY flexing. I'll post a picture once their uploaded.

I was more worried about using the cleats as a tie down point. I just don't trust them. Additional D-rings are on the way. I'm putting them on the wheel wells and all bolts (8 total).

 

I can't wait to see pics of the d-rings when they are in, I am thinking of this route myself.

No big problems so far hauling two bikes(ktm450 and ktm530 + gear). A couple bottom outs on bad bumps but that's all. I have a short bed, TSB leafs, and reinforced tail gate. All good!

 

I was surprised that I bottomed out a couple times this weekend too (2 full size dirt bikes). I have the TSB as well.

I hauled the same two bikes in my 2004 Tacoma and never had a problem. What the hell is with this weak suspension?

I'm planning on an AAL and I hope that gives it enough support.
