worked on the jetta last night, got it back togethor, but the timing belt was off a few teeth.

many attempts of trying to get it alligned, it ran great once.. but it was a tooth off.
then we got it perfectly alligned, and it wouldnt even start.
put it back to a tooth off (both directions couldnt rememeber what way it was previously) and still no start.

    little confused.

You can get pretty close to that as an officer after all bennies. You'd have to climb the ladder a bit tho. :)

Zach, let me know of you need access to an FTP site to put/get bits from. I have one with about 5 terabytes of storage behind it.

Me too, and I just barely made it through high school. Those fancy pants degrees aren't nearly as important as real world experience and a bad ass resume. Plus, if you factor in that I have ZERO debt from student loans my disposable income is considerably higher than those with degrees.

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
I had a similar problem on my old Yukon. I know it's an entirely different setup from a Jetta, but you might be 180° out of sync on your firing sequence.

One thing you can try: Pull the spark plug from cylinder #1 and plug the hole with your finger. Have someone manually rotate the main pulley/harmonic balancer. When the piston reaches Top Dead Center (TDC), you will feel air escape through the spark plug hole. This should be in time within a few degrees. Reattach the timing chain and see if that works.

Not sure if this will work on your engine or not, but it's worth a try.

Thanks for the input benson, but we did pull cylinder #1 to make sure it was at its highest point. honestly, at this point, i just want it to start so i can trade the damn thing in.
