Is there a predetermined date when they will cancel the season? with 25% gone, and no end in sight, I think this season is a wash at this point.

Ultimately I guess it depends upon what makes the most sense financially. I would think January to be the latest they could start a season. If so, they would likely need a deal by the end of this month.

The owners are clearly playing hardball. Not surprising, because you don't get to be a billionaire by allowing a bunch of spoiled 20 year year old jocks boss you around(this union is a joke). So I would not be surprised if they cancel the season by the end of this month.

This morning I played hockey with a friend who happens to be buddies with Mark Chipman. Chipman is one of the owners of the Winnipeg Jets. Apparently if the meetings that are going on as I type this(in NY) bear fruit we we be getting not only a season, but the winter classic as well. My friend seemed quite optimistic that such an announcement would be coming this week.

How about that bit of optimism!

assuming a deal gets done, the only way I'll go to a game this year is if the tickets are free.

The 1994 Lockout had the owners/players agree to a deal on Jan 11th, games began on Jan 20th. The 2004 Lockout didn't result in the cancellation of a season until the announcement on Feb 26th. I'd say there's 0% chance they cancel the season by the end of the month and no need to have a deal in place by the end of the month to save the season.

The players are set on brinkmanship and the owners are doing what they have to... over half the NHL teams are posting a loss and profits are too top heavy. Attendance has been great but doesn't equal profit.

You may be right, but this isn't 1994. My understanding is that there are not a lot of owners too encouraged about the idea of a 40 game season.
The players got bent over in 1994-95. Do you seriously think they will hold out until the new year and simply just take again like last time? There is no way the deal for them will be sweeter in January than it is right now.

I agree 100%. I am very bitter about all of this crap. At least most of us still have AHL and College. I have been following my Portland Pirates and UMaine Black Bears alot this season. They have been getting a decent ammount of attention here in Maine and that is good to see. They are not in the NHL's shadow this season! I have always found their games more fun to go to anyways.

It all comes across so vaguely in the article. I would be curious to know how many dollars the average player would recieve out of this.

Vague is good - less PR work with the media and more time behind closed doors at a NEUTRAL SITE! Can they save the season? I think it'd suck to see 2 blank spots on the Cup in 7 yrs span that say "Season not played"
