Well if we are offering unwated opinions, I also don't like how it looks for a daily driver. I get it if it is your offroad rig tho. I guess for a 15 year old truck it doesn't really matter what you paint it as resale isn't going to change that much either way.

Curious, how much does this "paint job" weigh?

A guy where I work did the bottom half of his Ford Explorer a couple years ago. He even did his wheels, his front & rear bumpers, everything 1/2 way down on his truck got coated - and it was probably Herculiner. I love Herculiner - used it myself many times on specific projects - but I've seen what it looks like over time when exposed to the elements. This guys Ford Explorer looks like crap because the stuff is getting thin and coming off. Again - the only way to make this stuff look 'badass' again - is by recoating it.

You bring up a good point.... Weight. The professional jobs like Line X will be a lot thicker, weigh a lot more, and cost a fortune to do an entire truck. Herculiner would be much cheaper but would need re-applied over the years adding more weight.

And this might be a rare thing - but if you get in an accident, accidentally brush up against a light pole, shopping cart hits it..... It might gouge it causing it to peel up (kinda like dried elmers glue when you were a kid). You'll have a heck of a time trying to get a dent fixed.... and good luck having your insurance pay for a paint job (cuz they won't herculiner for you).

Not being negative....just bringing up some points that are overlooked. Once you coat your truck with that stuff - there is NO WAY of going back!!!

I like it, I think Kevin's truck looks badass. Nice job.

That's exactly why I won't do it. It looks awesome, IMO, but I wouldn't fancy having it in the event of an accident, or if I ever decide to really paint the taco.

If you have a 15-year old farm truck or hunters rig then go for it. Usually you don't sell those and you keep them. BUT if you have any ideas of selling it in the future it WILL DESTROY the resale value.

Kevin it WILL fade and get a chalky look, that's why Line-X has the "premium" with uv protectant. I can see it doing this in 5 years or less depending on the sun (Texas)! The only way I used to shine up my black line-x in my Dakota was with a sponge and a lot of no touch tire cleaner, even at that it had taken on a slate grey color rather the then original black.

Good thing I got the premium eh? And worrying about door dings from grocery carts, I gotta say I didn't know I should fear them more than a tree or rocks on the trails. The weight is far less than say a bumper or sliders or even big old tires, what is this a race car? Granted its not for everyone one, y'all make opinions like my wife lol. Its a truck daily driver, off road fun. I don't plan to ever sell it, its paid off. Oh did I mention lifetime warranty, you know for those scratches or rips? lmao

Oh no my resale value, a 13yr old truck that I paid $4000.00 for

Did my front end and flares a couple weeks ago. Gonna do my rocker, rear flares, bed and bed gate after i have a rear quarter panel fixed next week.

I can say this it is clear you will be replacing body panels that get banged up as repairing this stuff is not gonna happen. As far as fading goes it can be re-sprayed.

GO Line-X is looks 100% better than any other product and will stay stuck no questions asked. I would not cut corners and use another product as this stuff if very dramatic and 1 little imperfection will show up and not be fixable.

Yes it is not a Toyota. Use Google images search you will find all kinds of stuff..

Anyone know why my pics are not showing up. I hosted them at Photobucket then copied and pasted into the little mountain icon...

Someone here crunched some numbers a while back and came up with 170lbs for a 1/4 inch coat of Line-x in the bed and 1/8 inch everywhere else.
