Meh. I'd rather bend a tie rod than destroy my rack. Tie rods are the weak point now and I like that idea.

    What he said^!

    Tonight's work....
-pulled off HD steering. Decent timing, the drivers boot was ripped wide open. Hopefully the rack lasts.
-installed new inner and outer factory tie rods with allpro extenders. New boots and a few nuts.
-alignment(so much easier to do with these tie rods...

i was talking about the steering components like joe said and the tie rod rod could still be the weak point but you would have super beefy rebuildable moving parts :D

Or I could just buy a new $40 tie rod? The inner tie rod will be the part that fails.

Are driver's side and passenger side specific or could you buy one spare for the trail and be set? Just curious.

Jamie, make sure you carry a pipewrench with ya. It helps alot when changing those tie rods.

And CoTaco they are exact same both sides

Thanks dude, I'm jealous of your wheels!

Had the truck out today, did some good rock climbs and some pretty intense ledge action. Steering held up great.

Just went through the whole thread and the only word that comes to mind is "impressed" that really is some beautiful country up there. Awesome build man. How far is it for you to go wheeling, it must be close if you go at what seems like a moments notice.

Thanks blueitrgsr! It's about 25 minutes from my place to where I offroad in the summer. Winter wheeling is done about 45 minutes away. I hope to be heading down south in 2013 to wheel!

damn it Spoon still really like your set up. Think you did it right man. Read the LT stitchy and was gonna puss out and just go 6" inch disco but I live in similar country and think I can make this work with less issues.... still pussing out w 33's don't want to regear. And already have them. Guessing I'd have lot less trimming.
Still reading and learning though.... but getting ichy to pull the trigger. Would you still go All-pro, TC or would you do something diff if you were starting this right now.

Thanks a lot for the comments ;)

If I could do it again....total chaos with steering rod extenders. 33s will be great though. You won't have to trim and make your truck ugly. Allpro has a great setup for their control arms. The tubular arms are super beefy and you could probably ram rocks all day with no problems. The only problem with allpro is the heim joints/uniballs. My uniballs are worn out on my LCAs! I have replace the HD steering with regular tie rods. So I'm confident in my steering. If allpro put stronger uniballs in, or they were somehow sealed, they would be great.
