    definitely go 4.88 I went 4.56 for 33's and it was perfect with 35's its lacking. I wish I over geared knowing I would eventually go to 35's. I have an auto.

    this is a good site to play with RPM and gear ratio's even does crawl boxes if you add them on: http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html

    I have lots of thought on that...lol! Which is why my wife says I have "analysis paralysis!" We have a 95 Toy rock crawler (trailered trail rig), an 82 4x4 pickup in the stages of crawler build, and the '11 Tacoma. I try to keep the Tacoma road-ready, and do very little off road since it is the means to go to work. If you're not blessed (cursed?) with these type options in the driveway, I think it's a delicate balance to have your rig dressed for more than one or two "occasions" and maintain dependability and road-worthiness.

    Installation of a locker will require the same type labor as a gear swap. Up here these are not cheap options. You could always order a built 3rd and stab it in yourself. Cost-wise it would probably be a wash, but everything would be new with the third.

    2nd= 2.04
    3rd= 1.4
    4th= 1.00

    It's hard to decide that's for sure. Your build list is very enviable...nice! I've always liked the look of just a bit of lift and 33s on just about any truck. I haven't been able to convince me to pull the trigger on the OME suspension and KM2s. When I put myself in the seat, I'm either going to work or doing a road trip to Anchorage/Valdez, etc...and a lift and 33s will in no way enhance one of those trips.

    All that said...we're pretty lucky these are our "issues!" lol

    Yours are the numbers for the A750F 5spd auto, we were talking about the R155F 5spd manual on the 2nd gens.

    Ok, great stuff on this thread. Can someone dumb this down for me more? I have a 2012 trd or sb, 6 speed manual. I just put 255/85/16 on. I dd this truck and the highway is great with lower rpms. Starting from a stop is painful and I feel like I lost all the pep it had . Any suggestions on how to get it back to stock performance? I probably gained hwy mileage
    e but would gladly trade it back for 1st gear torque.

    Suggestions? Is regear typically just front and rear differentials?

    Unless you go with a splitter or a new transmission, yes.

    Gears or supercharger. Just remember, torque or speed, it's all a balance with gearing.

    You can try and find 4.10 gears if you want.

    Maybe just drive the truck harder and spend the money on gas. You can buy a lot of gas for the cost of gears.

    255's will be it for this truck so you think the 4.10's would be sufficient. I am really happy with HWY rpm's but am concerned about off road. I will be taking it out for the first off road test with the new tires.

    On on another note, i put my gps in my truck and I am like 3MPH faster than indicated on the speedo at 40MPH (GPS) and around 5-6 MPH indicated at 75-80 GPS.

    I also noticed my odometer is off anywhere from 1.5 to 2 /10 th's short with the 255's. So I am actually going farther than the odometer indicates, that will add up over time!

    Yeah I gained about 9% over the odo with the 255's, so for every mile the odo says I go, I really went about 1.09 miles.

    I think you hit the nail on the head here. I do like how it was with the stock tires, enough tork for what I have done and plan on and good speed for flatter areas /highway . I am afraid that 4.56 would be to much with the daily driving 50 miles round trip on the highway, wish I could test a mod before buying. Ha ha wouldn't that be nice!

    Any idea what parts and labor would be on 4.11' s? I assume the typical $1000 that every mod ends up costing me? And the lockers, air tank and compressor another $500- $600?

    I have the toyo MT's 255/85/16 which are a bit taller than the 285 but narrower, full 5 piece bud built aluminum skids on the way any day now, CBI HC rear with tire carrier and will be adding the plate front with winch and sliders. All that weight adds up and those tires from a dead stop is the worst part, once moving it is fine. Maybe 4.56.

    Out of curiosity. I noticed that ECGS also offers 4.30 gears. Anyone have an opinion or experience with those? Seems like they would give you a better middle ground than 4.10s or 4.56s.

    I'm in the same boat with the 255/85/16's and just want to get that power back!

    For real, I did not see that on their site, sounds like the 4.30 might be the perfect match. :eek::

    Since you have an auto i think any of those gears would be fine. We are geared a little higher than the manuals so I think you may want the 4.56's although I am surprised you are complaining seeing as how you are s/c'd:confused: also you may not want to go to that low of a gear though because of the s/c's extra power.

    I am running 255/85/16's with 4.88's and it has some more pep back in it but they wont even chirp the tires from a stop. If I power break it good it with barely chirp them. With your S/C and new gears I forsee lots of tire spinning... The main reason I regeared is because on the freeway the cruise couldnt maintain 75 very well. It would downshift at the first sign of an incline. I would think the s/c would correct this itself.

    The S/C does "correct" the power loss from going with larger tires. However, on the highway I find myself putting my foot down quite a bit just to keep the truck moving. The S/C chugs gas once boost begins and that is the only time it will produce a good amount of torque.

    I can get the truck moving when I need it to but it just feels sluggish and on the highway it feels like I am it dogging the whole time. Also, whenever I have the bed full, I have to keep the engine working harder just to maintain cruise and I just feel it is causing more wear than necessary.

    Edit: Plus, I put a supercharger on it! I want to feel the POWAH!

    Hello everyone. I have an 07 4x4 with 33' and stock gears. I just got a 6" lift and since i didnt wanted to regear i ordered another 33 set of tires just went from 16 rim to 17 to clear space and get rid of the spacers. The store got confused when i told em i can clear 35s but i want to saty with 33s; well, they sent me 35 and im worried about the regearing. I would like to install them but i want to know if im gonna be able to drive my truck since i have added lot of weight with plate bumper and shell plus some tools and now the tires. Where and how much would it aproximatelly cost for regearing my truck? Thanks for any help.
