I've heard similar justifications for smoking bans. Just because the government pays for health care, doesn't give it authority to micromanage your day-to-day life. It's a slippery slope. Next thing you know they'll outlaw bacon, because cardiovascular problems are a leading cause of death for certain age groups. Or sugar, for fear or diabetes, etc.

I believe NH still doesn't have seatbelt laws. Live free or die. :)

Anyway, back to the WTF... You didn't actually think Natalie would actually sit next to urinals did you?

On bikes: I always say this when people talk about motorcycle safety. I will share the road with anyone on wheels..motorcycle, bike..hell ride a unicycle if you want. BUT share the road means you follow the same rules I do. No splitting lanes, no running the light..none of it. Just like male vs female I believe in equal rights but it must be equal all the way.

Re insurance: My health insurance requires me to pay an extra $25 a month because I am a smoker. I don't care, I pay it and shut up versus some who lie about it. Hate to be them if they get caught and are on the shit list already. One state does have the "fat tax" in a similar vein, it has been challenged in court and upheld.

On seatbelts: I never wore mine even when it became law in MA. 10 years ago I got in an accident driving drunk..fortunately single car and I wasn't seriously injured, but banged my already not great knees up. Since then I always wear it. I tell people I feel it should be a choice and I choose to wear mine but won't force them to. Only exceptions are my elderly father in law, who has Alzheimers and among other things I don't want to risk him trying to jump out of my truck..and my sister's children, she makes them wear a seatbelt and I not only make them buckle up but check it myself before I start the engine.

the problem with smoking is different.

I won't get cancer and die because you didn't wear a seat belt or helmet. It's also not an annoyance to others.

other problem is...most business owners are too politically correct to ban smoking on their own in fear of lawsuits.

    However...

I do wish more business owners would ban smoking completely (not just inside), why do the smokers own outside seating at restaurants?..and let others have full smoking, inside & out.

Let the market choose the winners and losers.

I hate to hear this. You could be severally injured un an accident, and cost the insurance company just as much.

Also, I'm very conscious person when it comes to smoking, and respect peoples space, as I expect them to respect mine.

I've seen people a good distance away, not say a thing, and then they see me and complain. So that just makes you a huge DB and liar.

where I live they have banned smoking within I think 15 feet of any building entrance, and from public parks, it's wonderfull, very few people smoke here compared to all other places I have visited. smoking is a seriously stupid thing to do for your own health, but nobody has the right to force the rest of us to breathe second hand smoke.

Let's all agree to disagree, just so we don't fill up the WTF thread with more.

I always wear my seat belt. But my position is...it should be my choice. And any relationship with an insurance company should be my business, not the government's or anyone else's.

and you may be respectful as a smoker...most are not.

and no matter how respectful one may think he/she is...there is no way I'm eating outdoors at a resturaunt while smokers are lighting up.

then...there is the "gauntlet" at the door us non smokers must traverse.
