Judging from what I've read, it's pretty good. The reviews are decent. I've never ridden one.

Many Santa Cruz dealers offer demos and there are several dealers near you. Of course, finding one in the right size for you could be a challenge. Definitely ride one first.

Pinkbike's a bad place to shop...too many really nice bikes for sale there :) In the Nomad or Nickel forums, you can probably get more of an idea than any review could give you too.

    Good luck!

    Yes, I sold my '13 Taco. :'(
Having owned 3 SC APP bikes(and currently 1 2012 Butcher) and currently a handful of SC VPP bikes('12 Nomad C/'12 Blur LTC/'12 V10c) the performance is noticeably different between the 2 systems but the shock rates/curves are surprisingly similar. Kinda hard to explain, but Santa Cruz has done that on purpose. Here's an explanation from a old Pink Bike article that words it the best:

Can't go wrong with any APP/VPP SC bike. I use my Butcher the most out of any bike and I ride it pretty hard...the APP stuff works!

I have been checking out pinkbike, man I can build a serious bike if I had the time and money. Everything is pretty good priced, even for the complete bikes....

I should put a bike together with all the best components and see how cheap I can build it on pinkbike. When I get time.

I was thinking about building a bike with my local bike shop that gives me a really good deal on anything I buy from them and seeing how cheap I can get it. That way I support those guys...

I'm pretty lucky to have three really good shops near by. All carry Santa Cruz bikes and all have good mechanics.

Right now it is $0. I think that if I could get exactly what I wanted for $3k to $4k I might be alright. But I have to build up to the point where I can handle the bike, not the bike handle me. I have to really get good and start racing again before I go and spend that kind of money. Or at least be riding at that level.

There is a Specialized S-Works Stumpjumper Carbon on Pink Bike right now that I am eyeing. I have heard some good things about the brain shock and it definitely intrigues me. Now it is a matter of coming up with the dough. I would like to talk him down to $2500 if I can.
