anyone here get the steering wheel shakes for the first couple of miles when driving their tacoma's for the day? in NE, we some really cold nights, and i noticed that after leaving my truck sitting all night or all day when its cold, its almost like the tires get flat spots from sitting, but after a mile or two, they warm up and no more shakes... they are balanced normally, they are 285/75/16's and im running them @ 29.5-ish psi. they are fine once warmed up, and fine for the rest of the day after the first couple miles, its just when you first take it out, or after working a midnight they will shake for a mile or two... just wondering if anyone has this as well, and what i could do to fix it? nitrogen filling isnt going to help much, maybe the tires just have some condensation in them? no idea....

Never noticed that before. But next time it's cold out and I take my truck for a drive, I'll pay attention to that and see if it happens.

Yeah, if your tires have a soft compound, it will deform a little bit if left sitting for a while.

I swear, if I win the lottery, I would get this for my house so I can work on my truck!

How ironic...I was going to mention that this happens in my GTI in the winter. I don't know of anything you could do to eliminate this other than the lift or an insulated garage.

The cold weather plus the soft tires you have combine to create the issue. All tires deform naturally when weight is applied. This deformation is held still when your truck is parked and not moving. Your tires and all tires are made of polymer chains. The cold weather (low of kinetic energy) slows the movement of the molecules in the polymer chains. The lack of kinetic energy in the polymer compounds limit the elasticity and "stickyness," reducing the modulus of the polymer. As the the truck is driven, friction from the road heats the tires, giving them more kinetic energy, thus a more elastic, "sticky" tire, returning the tire to "normal."

Edit: Sorry, I see that this is a little intense for forum chat.
