No you should not. Go to your dealer and get one for around $5.00

Ask the parts guy if they offer a deal on 3 or more. I pay $12 and change for 3 filters. I have to ask for the discount though.

A friend of mine says he buys all his oil filters for his Toyota's at the dealer b/c Toyota oil filters have a spring in them to help keep the oil pressure the way its supposed to be. Is this true?

mobile 1 is 12.99 but they were running a deal, buy 5.1 qt 5w-30 senthetic and filter for 33 bucks, so i don't feel to ripped on that deal. mobile 1 has the same spring that allows for a by pass during start-up and when the oil is still cold for "more free flow". so 9 bucks for a filter doesn't seem too bad to me since i only have to buy 2 filters a year ish.

Was wondering if the made in Thailand filters were cheaper than themade in Japan filters at the dealer.

No. Not exactly. The filter doesn't regulate the pressure. The filter has a pressure relief valve in it to allow oil to bypass the filter if it becomes clogged. In practice this should never happen. All filters have them but the Toyota filter does have a much nicer one. It's got a real spring and rubber seal instead of a cheesy piece of bent metal. It's just a better filter all the way around.

There is a thread here that showed all major brand filter dissected. The toyota was the best of them all, and as cheap if not cheaper than most. I'd lunk the thread but im on my phone.
