Yeah that SDHQ fj is rad, will be cool to see it done.
All pro has some good leaf springs that aren't as long as 62's, plus they are cheap, ran them on a fugly 83 i built a while back and I liked them. Got about 15" of travel. I want to do a weird 3 link with a canti/coilover setup, i can see the design in my head but i don't know if it will work and fit, and it will probably need a sway bar, making it more spendy and complicated.

    question..

so if i understand correctly, the axle goes into the spindle and the c-clip that holds the axle into the spindle also holds the wheel bearings together right? i went out sunday and mobbed around, truck did GREAT. torwards the end of the i started hearing a clunking sound coming from the front passenger side. i got out and i noticed my axle wasnt seated all the way into my spindle. at this point my buddy left with my tools so i couldnt take it apart to see if my snap ring just slipped off the axle shaft, im pretty sure thats what happened. i drove 25 miles home like this, driving about 30mph taking it easy.
    could this have damaged anything?

edit: if i grab my axle i can slide the shaft in and out of the spindle a inch or so.

A little play is not unusual but an inch is too much. Did you re set the small C clip on the axle itself when you extended the shafts? Did you make it out to the pick-up on saturday?

oh its not a little play, i can almost gaurentee the snap ring came loose, i can literally slide the axle out and see the shaft. could that mess anything up?

and no i didnt.... i was working on my truck all day friday and saturday, finally got it to where i can go saturday night so it was too late :(

    Lots of expensive shit
What kind of truck? If its a tacoma with manual locking hubs than there is a snap ring that holds the axle in. But the wheel bearings are held together by a nut on the back side of the hub flange.

If its auto hubs, there is a nut on the outside snout of the outer CV that tightens everything together

The problem I ran into when working on a canti design was the track bar being in the way. If you want about 14" of travel do what I am doing, either get the metal tech or custom coils and rework the factory shock mounts then do a three link to get rid of the link above the tank, the. You can move the tank up

I wouldn't drive on it. For fear of stripping the splines.

Sorry I'm on my phone so I can't quote, but yes it has locking hubs with the snap ring. So then my wheel bearings are going to be fine?

And I'm not going to drive it.. Just had to to get home

your wheel bearings are probably fine since the axle just slides through the center, does it stop before it comes out all the way? I wonder if the bolt at the end of the axle came out.

Bolt at the end of the axle? There isn't a bolt at the end... There's threads into the axle shaft though??

Lots of people in a small area. Alot of people are just out there to watch so you get lines of the vehicles around where the action is. The sand cars in rows was a roundup show they do every year.

Yeah There is a bolt that goes inside those threads, at least on mine, it seems to snug things up. Here is a picture of the bolt I'm talking about.
