My wife was on her way to pic up our son yesterday evening when a guy ran a red light (he was an off duty cop) and she hit him. She walked away a little bruised up and scared she went to the minor emergency. The guy she hit went away in the ambulance but he is ok. The air bags deployed and it sucks the car is totaled but it served its purpose and protected her. Her car is (was) the black 2003 Ford Escape. I think I might get her a 4 runner now. Here are some pics. She was not at fault the guy did admit to running the light.

Glad everyone is ok. Cars can be replaced, people can't.

4Runner is a good choice, a nice solid vehicle with a great reputation.

I like the 4Runner but a little bias. I have an Escape now.

Glad she's ok. Looks like the force was spread evenly over the entire front end so it was absorbed well.

4 Runner would be a great choice. Keep your family....in the family :D

I just hope what we get gets better mileage than the Escape. It was a great vehicle though.

Glad everyone is ok. I T-boned a dude going about 50mph in my mom's 4Runner back in 2000. Destroyed the 4Runner and the other vehicle, but I went unscathed. If I had to choose a vehicle to get get in a wreck with, I'd go with the 4Runner any day!

It doesn't surprise me that a cop ran a red light, they do it so often anyways. Pisses me off cus shit like this happens. Sorry for your loss of vehicle and glad everyone is ok. I agree with everyone else though... Get a 4Runner and armor it up :D

I've seen several pictures lately showing the aftermath of some ugly wrecks. What stands out about almost all of them is just how many people walk away from these wrecks. Just goes to show how much safer vehicles have become. We sometimes bitch about some of the "nanny" features, but they can certainly be great to have when the worst happens.

I'm not so sure the outcome would have been as good if this had happened 20 years ago.

Either way, it's great that nobody was seriously injured. It can't be said enough....we can always buy new cars, but loved ones can never be replaced.

I used to have an Escape hybrid. It got around 29 mpg - not great, but pretty good for midsize SUV.

police report came out today and they ticked the other driver for "disregarded red light".

Being that the other driver was a cop I thought they would not ticket him. I hate to see any one get a ticket but he deserved it.
