How Good or Bad are the BFGoodrich Rugged Trail T/A Tires?

how did you like the factory BFG Rugged Trail T/A Tires (265/70/R16) on your TRD OR??

    but arent they really bad in the rain tho?? cause ill be using them mainly on road if i decide to get them as my next set

    you know what else the tacoma should have that the FJ's have? their manual transfer case.. tacomas really should have the FJ transfercase setup from the factory lol

    X2. They're not the best tired I've owned, or the worst. I wouldn't want to go hard core wheeling in them, but for occasional off-road use they're fine. So far mine have performed reasonably well in a variety of conditions. I would guess the tire serves the majority of Tacoma owners reasonably well, but I can definitely see where most on this don't like the tire since most users on this site have upgraded their trucks beyond the stock tires/wheels. As an OEM tire they're fine, but there are definitely better A/T tires out there.

    but how bad are they in the rain on a scale of 1-10?? 1 being the worst an 10 being the best. because i had all terrain t/a ko's and the sucked so badly in the rain and as an onroad tire.. i really couldnt stand them.. they looked really nice tho xD

    Satoshi, debadged, rear view mirror bracket, tail gate hose clamps, trimmed mud flaps.
    Instead of the Rugged Trails, consider the Rugged Terrains. Still consided a highway tire, but are supposed to be decent in wet conditions. I have heard both suck offroad as the grooves fill too easily with mud/snow.

    I put about 30000 on the rugged trails that came on my TRD and my impressions were as follows:
    Dry pavement they are low noise, handled well without too much roll or stiffness and yielded good mpgs (22-23 with a light foot).

    Wet pavement they seemed to have adequate traction until water ponded on the road in which case they had an above average likelyhood to hydroplane. Not super cool.

    Light offroading (dry dirt, gravel, etc) they performed fine enough for any highway tire with a semi aggressive tread. No noticible problems here.

    Mud. LOOK ELSEWHERE if you want a tire that performs well on even slightly moist dirt. Rugged trails are the worst tire in mud I have ever used on a tacoma. I actually prefer the dunlop at20s for mud (nothing else though) over these. They have some sort of magnetic attraction to mud that just turns them into spinning cheesewheels that will barely cleanout under full throtle. I frequently had to use 4wd with vsc off to go up slight inclines following 2wd F150s with cooper AT/3s. I hated these tires for this reason alone.

    I never put the rugged trails to use in more demanding offroad situations or snow so I can't say anything about that.

    If you are considering buying them, don't. There are better options for less $$. But I wouldn't rip them off a truck as soon as I got it...Unless I could afford it.

    I had a set and only got 26,000 miles before I had to replace them. Brother-In-Law had a set and only got 27,000 miles out of his.

    I had around 4/32 left at 30000 so I would have been swapping them soon. Not too good for a BFG as I got over 60k out of the AT/KOs.

    Worse tire i've ever experienced in 40 years of driving. These passenger rated piece of shit tires don't belong on a truck... or any vehical! After noticing how much tread was left i got rid of them... didn't trust them for the upcoming winter weather. They were only on the truck for 15,000 #*%%@ miles!!! :eek:

    these tires SUCK in any snow/ice conditions. i aired my set down to anywhere from 15-20psi and went rock crawling one weekend, they did o.k. but afterwards they were worn and gouged pretty good just from a few hours on smooth rocks

    Ok cool, so everyone seems to be in general agreement that they pretty much blow, so has anoyone have any experience with the firestone destination LE's?? Ive never owned a set of firestones mostly due to there ford explorer fiasco back in the 90's. So how are the firestones?? And since we are on that note, what about the hancook dynapros?? And is there any BFG tire out there that looks good that also performs well on road and has good wet/rain traction?? (because i don't believe the BFG rugged terrains are made anymore)

    You can't go wrong with bfg a/t's. I've gone through alot of sets of them over the years and they normally lasted between 60-70,000 miles. Most of that driving was done in rain conditions up in the Seattle area.

    I only lost power for about 6 hours, Im in pemberton, I was at work though when we lost power (roommate told me) had power here on base, but are also on a diesel back up. No flooding, some ripped up trees in the neighborhood. How bout you?

    Just sold my rugged terrains on Craigslist for 425 with 11000 miles on them and DT warranty. Then bought AT KOs for 880 with warranty.

    These things were definitely not the greatest. I got through some rocky terrain all right in the desert with them. They lasted 43xxx miles from normal driving and rotations. I did just replace with some AT's though.
