Im sure others on here have bought a truck out of state, long story short after doing alot of internet shopping I got a great price from a dealer in MA and im from CT.

Well after agreeing on a price, getting loan squared away and etc. The dealer tells me I have to go up and pay for the truck, and then they will deliver it a few days later. He said theres no way around it.

I simply dont want some stanger driving my new $30k+ truck 75 miles , especially after Ive already paid for it.

Is it really this much of a pain to buy a car out of state or is it the dealer that Im dealing with ?

Im almost ready to pay the extra 300-400 just to get it locally.

some of this, a little of that
Anyway you can just get it when you pay for it, seems needlessly difficult.

Thats what I was hoping for, I bring them a check, they hand me the keys and i'd be happy.

But they claim that they will have to deliver the vehicle to me at my local dmv a few days after I pay for it, which sounds like a major hassle .

After looking on the ct.dmv website I should be able to get a temp plate, then pickup the truck and drive it home, but the dealer doesnt seem to agree??

Just take the quote to a local dealer, I'm sure you can find someone to match the price.

I'm from NM and I bought my truck in CO. Flew up one Saturday morning, drove back that evening. I signed the papers and an hour later I was on the road in my new truck. About a month later I received all the paperwork in the mail to register it at the MVD, including a check written to the MVD for registration. I don't know why they're telling you that. Hell for a few hundred dollars more it might be worth your time to buy it locally, especially factoring in your cost of transportation to the out of state dealer.

i'm not getting this, are they getting the truck from another dealer? your going to drop 30k and have to wait 3 days to get your truck? does not sound like a dealer i would want to deal with. i would spend 300 more and buy it local. heck, your dropping 30k, whats 300?

They have the truck on thier lot.

No local dealer in my area was able to match it, most have pretty much told me good luck. And I have my heart set on certain option and colors. the next best price is about $300 and some change higher..

I might sound like a pric , but I dont want some stranger driving my truck such a long way after I paid for it, plus its my first brand new vehicle I want to put the first miles on it.

Initially a extra $300 would pay for my sub and amp or one of my payments, but now im thinking of paying the extra $ to a local dealer.

Which dealer in MA. Don't tell me one on cape cod because that one is scam artist. All dealers should be able to give you temp plates.

I drove across the state line and picked up my own truck. Price was much better and we agreed on the day/time for pickup. Got there and the truck was already detailed with my name in the window. Completed paperwork and drove back home. I wouldn't allow them to drive it if I went there to pay. I would tell them to deal or don't.

Get someone to take you up there to get the truck. Then no one has to drive it. Most dealers use retired folks to drive the trucks, not younger guys that would put it through it's paces.

Ya but its diffrent IMO once you already pay for it.. then they drive it..

Not a option he told me, said they have to deliver it ?

I know the guy might not put it through the paces, but accidents happen, and im sure the dealer will cash my check as soon as they get it and I wont have the truck ...

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Bought a new 1984. Dealer delivered it 75 miles. Two trucks arrived at my house, 1 left. I put 300,000 on that truck. Zero problems.

I think I'd pass on that stealership, if they won't let me pick it up. My .02

Tell them to throw it on a flat bed to deliver it. For the record, I bought my truck from Acton Toyota and they were awesome. They will get the first shot at my business next time around.

It sounds like the dealer is trying to protect himself by waiting a day or two for the finances to go through before releasing the truck. Have them agree to flatbed tow it to you.
