I haven't noticed it doing anything to my paint. I've been running that stuff for a few years now. As long as you keep up on washing it and the occassional wax job, it shouldn't do anything to the paint job.

But in all honesty.... I ensure my washer fluid is the low temp kind, I've never changed my antifreeze, and this year I am wanting to spray some Fluid Film on the frame rails etc. to help protect from road salt-I found it at my local John Deere dealership. I couldn't find anywhere else that had it it.

    This stuff.

Best I've ever used out of a jug, period. Excellent performance, even during ice rain. Protects down to -32C (-25F), which should be plenty for NE.

In the worst of icing conditions, you can also add extra de-icer to this or standard windshield washer fluid - sold in the same area of the auto department as the washer fluid.

    Cheers,
    Marc

Thanks again guys! I am also looking at emergency road kits, but I don't want to get one with a bunch of crap I don't need. Any recommendations? Or should I just make my own?

Make your own. That way you know what's in there and how to use it.

Are you saying they remix the premix? Because I thought you are not suppose to mix anything with the premix?

Any anyway doesn't the optimal mix protect the best for both freeze and heat?

I just go by the conditions you are going to be in.

Keep stuff in the truck for city problems and a few containers for when you go out and can toss in the bed.

If you never go off road then simple city stuff.

    jumper cables
    tow strap

If you go off road with friends

    water/food for 2 days
    tow strap
    jump cable
    come along
    chain
    blanket

if you go off road hours from any citys

    water/food for 7 days
    matches/lighter
    blanket
    emergency blanket
    flairs
    air flairs
    gloves
    hats
    extra clothing
    chain
    tow straps
    extra fuel
    engine belt
    brake fluid
    power steer fluid
    antifreeze
    oil
    tools
    tire plug kit
    emergency batt pak
    air compressor
    epoxy paste
    gasket sealant
    radiator sealant

I basically have stuff in my truck that I will be good for 24 hours no matter winter/summer.

Then I have some rubbermaid containers with stuff for when I go out to BFE. Enough to fix anything from a broken belt, flat tire to a radiator leak.

Whenever making a safety kit, or an off-road kit, I go by the policy of "Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it!"

I can't quote for dealerships that I haven't worked at, but every dealership that I have worked at did not use premixed coolant. We got 100% coolant in jugs and then mixed them based on what was needed. I have never ran into premixed in a dealership, but I won't say that nobody does, since I haven't worked at every dealership...lol. The optimal mix is based on location. (Another reason supporting a dealership NOT having premixed coolant)

    hi there
    Welcome
your anti-freeze should be fine, most service shops will have an anti-freeze tester, they will test and make sure it is strong enough so that it won't freeze in your engine this winter
emergency kit >> warm clothes, hats gloves scarf
    >>flashlight and some spare batteries
    >> candle, if your broke down or stuck in a snowbank a candle
won't keep ya toasty warm but it will create a lot of heat
    in a small truck cab
    >> tow rope/chain
    >> cell and cell charger
If you were to get stuck in a storm and you are running your truck engine to keep warm always be mindfull of wind direction and your exhaust, be carefull of carbon monoxide piosoning. Always keep lots of gas in the tank, in the winter i consider 1/2 a tank as my empty mark.
Drive safe, get used the increased stopping distance we all need in the winter, practice emergency stops on a side road/parking lot to get a feel on how the truck is going to react.

all we ever do to winterize a truck is check the coolant the cca s on the battery and the washer fluid.basically make sure your freeze point of your coolant is good your cold cranking amps are ok and nothings gonna freeze and crack some metal, if you like you can use a thinner oil so cranking is easier but Ive never had a problem with 10-40 or 5-40 synthetic mobil one . the most important one is your you need to test coolant with either a refracometer or test strips
if it freezes in your engine it will either crack your block or your head although once i had it just ruin a gasket.
