So, I recently found myself in a situation that I am hoping that TW can shed some light on. I met this girl that I am very attracted to and get along well with, and I am almost positive I am going to ask her out soon. The issue that I am facing is that I am agnostic (erring on the side of athiest) and she is a devout Christian. She attends church regularly and even is an active member of CRU on campus. I am just wondering if any of you have any experience with this and whether or not I am digging myself a hole that I do not want to be in. Help?

Most of the time, it isn't going to work out in a situation like that. She isn't going to change her views on that and if you aren't, then she probably won't let it last long or at all. If you are open to her views then she might be willing to move to the next step, but something you guys would have to talk about very early on, I am sure.

the christ worshipers can be interesting to deal with. i get what you are saying though. as long as shes open and not a complete nut should be fine. though getting in her pants could prove a lengthy challenge

You mentioned campus (college) so I'm guessing you're probably getting close to the age of hunting down a candidate for a steady/lengthy relationship. With that in mind, If she isn't gonna take you home to mom and pops then I say pass... If she is a pretty religious person most likely her parents are too (if not more).

Just be honest and upfront, if it happens great. Don't judge her on her beliefs if you don't want her to do it to you.

I don't think I'd pursue it, to be honest. If you're not at a place where you're open to her faith, and she's firmly standing in it, it's only going to cause issues for her down the line. I think the respectful thing to do would be to not give her a story she's going to be ashamed to tell her future husban, assuming you don't think you're him.

That's decent advice. I'd also tell you to define "success" for the relationship. One night stand? Long term relationship? Marriage? Kids?

From my experience it's not going to work out in the long term. I dated a girl that was agnostic for 4.5 years. Marriage to her was the ultimate facebook status update. It was about the day. Marriage to me was about the union of two individuals honoring God. I realized this while we were at my cousin's wedding when she said she wanted to get married in a church like that. I asked why since she wasn't religious....

Then I thought, "Shit, this girl will be the mother of my children." I realized it would create unsolvable problems for us and potential kids down the line. I knew how I wanted my children raised and she didn't fit the bill.

    That's when I ended it.

When I was 19, I dated a girl 2 years younger than me. I was Catholic, she was Mormon. It didn't present issues although we weren't together very long. She was of the mind that sex is not before marriage, which I accepted.

I stopped dating her because she was a whiny little thing when she didn't get her own way all the time. Her mother disliked me as well for the religious difference but I doubt it had much to do with it.

But I would say just give it a shot and keep an open mind..you won't know otherwise.

I think this is the best advice. Be yourself around her. Be honest and open about everything including religion. I can certainly see your beliefs being an issue for her, and if that's the case, it's fine and you move on.

When you start changing yourself for someone is when you run into trouble. For one, you can't be happy if you're not being yourself. And, chicks don't dig guys with no backbone, they'd rather see you be strong and stick to your guns whether you're in agreement with them or not.

If it doesn't workout, just braaaaaaaap around campus in your truck for a little bit, you'll get plenty of sluts' numbers.
