I've been in this situation a few times. If she really is a devoted Christian then her religion and beliefs are really important to her and most likely it will not work out between the two of you as God comes before anything else and you being Agnostic will clash with her way of life.

On the other hand, if she's not as devoted as you think she is about her beliefs then you will be most likely seeing her in your back seat. Worked out for me a couple of times as I was able to sway them to the dark side. It's really a hit or miss so why don't you give it a try?

I appreciate everyone's input and experiences so keep it coming. Here's a little more clarification for you to work with. I have only hung out with this girl a couple times, none of which we were alone together during. I started to take notice of her enough to think that I would like to take her out on a date sometime. She recently added me on facebook and I noticed that her status updates are occasionally excerpts from the bible. Her roommate then told me that she was part of CRU, which is a Christian group on campus. I have never spoken to her about religion and honestly have never really had a good 1-on-1 conversation with her. I am very open to what other people believe and honestly do not care what anyone else around me believes concerning anything as long as they don't try and force it on me. I am just trying to see if I am setting myself up for failure or if there is even a shot of this working...

I was married to someone who believes in God. Was married.

    There's my answer right there.

Reading your original post I'm not sure where you're at on religion. But rather or not that is true, even within Christianity people/groups don't always agree. If I were intetested in her it would not stop me from exploring the possibility of dating.

The Bible bangers who are in groups are harder to sway than one who just attends Church. Those groups are brain washers and she would most likely go out with someone in the group. If you like her, lie, lie and lie. :D join the group!

Go on a date or 2 and sometime talk to her about it before committing to a relationship. It seems to me like you need to discover more about her in general before asking her out.

Sometimes its best just to live and learn... give her and yourself a shot, at least there won't be regrets in the future for not maning up ;)

Do it to it and don't do dinner on the first date, this is almost as bad as taking a lady to the movies on a first date.

I dunno about that... When I first met her my first thought was "out of my league". Then she started to take an interest in me and do some things that made me think she was interested. I am not really the initial pursuer here. I would give specifics, but it sounds like high school bullshit honestly. She's younger than me, and it shows sometimes. Take into account though we have only been face to face a few times, so I don't know her all that well.

Got it. She's immature and likes God. Fuck her and bail.

either way, if you aren't religious, and the girl is major religious, run now before its too late.

Or this idea which is great:

id try and hang with her a few more times, get to know her better and go from there, if you get the vibe she is going to push her values on you then its up to you if you wanna split or stay. i wouldn't bring religion up too soon tho or it might cause anything you had to go away.

I just don't understand that logic, what is there to fear her reading the bible to him or slapping a christian sticker on his truck. Just saying its worth a shot because you don't know if it will work until you try.

You have so many doubts already :/ you can't go into something like this. Try being positive about life and just living it. The random people who don't know you or her can't give an accurate judgment.

I have had some rocky relationships in my life... I am a doubter by experience. It sucks and I am trying to get past it. I want it to work, but I wanted some insight as to others experience on how to approach this.

Since you've already made religion an issue even before the very first date, I just don't see it working out at all. Religion is a conviction, not a lifestyle, so she's not going to give that up easily (at least not without being unhappy eventually - do you want that). At the same time, you've evidently taken a firm stand as well (no acceptance of religion by you, when her religion requires her to try to convert you).

Since the two of you will be basically living separate lives much of the time (her church activities/religious friends, your parties/agnostic friends, etc), the level of tolerance required will be extreme. Will you defend her went your friends challenge her beliefs, calling her ignorant (a common refrain of athiests) and similar? They most certainly will. Will she do likewise with her friends? That's only a small start of the potential problems.

OYou don't know anything about the girl and you are passing judgements that she is going to try to "convert" him? That is a bit presumptuous of you. OP never stated that religion was an issue as long as it is not forced upon him.
