    Stuck at work.
    I've tried jiggling my steering wheel, shifter and jiggling my key in the slot.
    The key turns just enough to unlock the steering and will not continue to acc, on, start.

    Anyone have any clues? I'm stuck at work and everyone is gone. No tools and 20 miles from home.

    There's not any fuses that control the gate or some type of control on the tumbler, is there.
    It just simply will not turn any further than unlocking the steering wheel. That's it.

    Sounds like you've tried everything obvious.

    Try tapping the end of the tumbler with something hard. Make sure the key isn't bent.

    You have to turn the steering wheel AS you turn the key. If the steering wheel locked close to a wheel turned point then it can make the key impossible to turn till you have constant pressure on the steering wheel.

    Doesn't appear to be bent. It does look pretty warn out.but i would think surely it would turn one last time.
    Never had a problem with it. Pulled into work at 11pm last nite and everything was normal.
    Put it in the morning and it wont do anything.
    Feels mechanical, but there's nothing broken. Key slides in smooth. Just can't figure out if there is something electrical that's not letting the gate or tumbler drop to get me to acc.

    Done that. I can get the steering unlocked, it just wont go to acc, on or start.

    My old '95 S-10 key had actually been used so much that the key metal had been warn away (It's softer then the internal lock tumblers metal). I had to get a new key cut using my current key as a template to fix it as a new key cut from the VIN # wouldn't match the lock housings wear & tear. Ensure you circle jiggle key up down left right as turning and you might get another few uses out of it. Thats how mine worked.

    Ya. Thats what I've been doing the last hour.
    This key is not the master key with the black plastic on it. It's the spare key with the toyota logo. The master is at home somewhere and has zero wear on it.

    If your stuck, you could just hotwire your own tacoma.. then fix it later. Don't knock what gets ya home..

    Called a wrecker. I was just thinking maybe the key is so worn out it finally gave up. Idk.
    Just sorts that it happened all of a sudden with no warning. It will go as far as unlocking the steering wheel and half way to the acc position.....then stops.
    I have a feeling the stealership is gonna rape me for this one.
    I guess I will rent a car for tonight (last nite of work) and i have tools at home so i can atleast get the truck there and mess with it this weekend.

    I'll have a look at the wiring diag. Just didn't know if anyone else had an issue.
    Hope the car rental place has a new camaro!!!

    Wait so you CAN get it to turn just barely? but not enough to hit next location? Sounds like somethings jammed inside your lock cylinder preventing it from turning, a new lock cylinder should fix that easily.

    A knife should be able to get you access to the wires.. Also, cabbing for 1 night might save you money on a rental ;) :thumbsup:

    Yea. It will turn enough to unlock the steering wheel. Where do I get a new cylender, dealership?. Then New keys made?

    Nah. I'd buy one from a reputable autoparts store. still get new and should be a bit cheaper. it'll come with 2 news keys. or it should anyways, make sure you ask when ordering to verify. good luck!
