Wow... :( You pretty much just labeled me the most ignorant person in the room. Not sure how that makes me feel. I don't know if I have made a religion an issue. I don't want it to be one and am looking for any guidance on how to work round it. It sounds like if she is as devout of a Christian as we are thinking then all is lost. I am secretly hoping that she is not as serious about it as others.

If you look at it from a practical POV...

what if she was into boats & boating. and she made it clear that boating was a large part of her life. but you did not like boats...hated the water and couldn not swim.

would you persue a relationship with this young lady?

I submit, you only would if you were interested in changing your feelings toward boats and the water/boating lifestyle.

Same goes for her Christian faith. She has made it clear that her faith is a large part of her life and unless you are interested in changing your feelings toward Christianity...you may want to look elsewhere.

Recreational companionship and spirtual compatibility are at the core of a lasting relationship.

    Good luck to you.

This is the only thing that matters.

Both of you need to be brutally honest about what you want and what you require of the other person. If you both just want a fling, the details aren't as important. If you want the possibility of a future with her, and she feels the same way about you, then get it all out in the open early on, before you have time to get attached to each other.

Neither of you is likely to change your beliefs. If that's a deal breaker for either of you, walk way now.

Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)
I have and so has my wife. I am not really religous myself, although my wifes family is seven day adventist. She is very religous. She want me to go to church with her, but she knows when I am ready I may, but she understands I have my reasons. I just respect her man. She loves me because I can be a crazy fuck, which makes her happy. :)

I already had to jump the hurdle of being the only white boy in her entire family (she is latin) who speaks very little spanish.

Religion is not what makes the relationship to me and her.

Just talk about it with her, explain how you feel, and if she cannot accept it, then it will not work.

    Good luck man:)

Labeling you as ignorant certainly wasn't my intent. Instead, I was just trying to be bluntly honest about the huge differences involved, spelling out only some of the pitfalls to think about. I thought that was what you were seeking. My apologies.

sounds like you've never been to the right church. i trend to avoid those. churches are like shoes...there's a million of them, but not all are a good fit.

I say don't make the mistakes I made many, many times over when I was that age. Wish I had it all to live over, knowing what I know now.

If any girl shows a bit of interest in you and you also like her, you go with it until you find out a real reason otherwise.

kenroe, thank you for that, I suppose... I'm not sure what it was meant for though. Hitler had a powerful message too, doesn't mean it was right. For me, telling is not going to make me change the way I think at all. I must be shown something in order to believe it. Regardless, this isn't a thread about my belief system and what it means to me. I understand that you feel that her belief system will not allow her to mesh on a personal level with me.

It most likely will work for a few, then she'll attempt to convert you. Take you to church, etc. Then if you go, she'll have numerous people talking to you and you won't wanna go anymore. This will result in a possible rift in the relationship which depending on how the differences go, will result in a split.

I know numerous religious girls, I won't even waste my time on them because some disagreement regarding religion is bound to cause a rift in the relationship.

Save yourself the heartache, go with someone you know you can get along with on all levels.

I think it's a situation where you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Why not take her out on a date and see how it goes? If she talks about God every 5 minutes then don't go out again.

Just do it man, go with it and be open minded - it might be the best decision you've made.

Get to know her and maybe you'll see why she believes what she believes instead of just trying to ignore one of the biggest parts of her life.

Relationships are give and take, right from the beginning. If you won't try to understand her relationship with God, then she's not going to try to understand why you want a 3" lift and 33's. :)
