Hmmm. we have an inmate/patient at our facility whom shot to death his father ( a chicago police officer), his mother, and sister, all with a handgun. murdered whilst they slept. I've seen and escorted/transported individuals (particularly women) who have murdered their own children, the deaths often expedited due to access to a gun. Do i believe in the 2nd amendment, absolutely. with consideration, absolutely.

I do too. I carry everyday again.

But I don't see any harm in asking someone why they want a gun.

If you can cut off someone who will do harm before they do it, it's the responsible thing to do. If your answer is "it's my American right," then good for you. If your answer is "I want to kill people," then, not so much.

For a 15-second exchange to determine if someone is hiding something isn't a waste of time or intrusion on anyone's rights. As we've seen countless times, weapons can easily fall into the hands of people who shouldn't have them, and if a person gets butthurt because some ATF guy asked you why you want one, then perhaps they should re-evaluate what their motivations are.

Seriously, "why do you want a gun?" is not a hard question to answer, and it doesn't take a lot of time. People of sound mind an motive should have no problem answering it, since it's a question they should have asked themselves prior to purchase anyway.

To which the retailer/seller will either:

A.) Have no commercial and/or moral opposition to and readily sell you your firearm.

B.) Have a commercial and/or moral opposition to and tell you to take your business elsewhere.

Amazing how consumer markets work, isn't it?

An intelligent reply..........not. and one certain to get you flagged when applying (considering the gun-shop owner). think again, fussy-britches.

flag me all you want, you have no legal reason to not sell me the firearm; i.e. discrimination
.....and if they ask me that, i probably will take my business elsewhere

A retail establishment can refuse service to anyone they choose. And your discrimination case would be thrown out (if not laughed out) of court in oh, about 15 seconds.

As for the second part -- that's your right as a consumer, and the reason free markets exist: competition.

Exactly. Nobody asked me why I want to buy cigarettes or why do I need gas or why do I need clothes. If I want to buy a gun for whatever reasons it may be, it is my business and none of anybody else's business. Constitutional right is a right given by God protected by the Constitution. There is no explanation there is no bylines or anything like that.

The idea that I need to have a reason is reason for me to question your belief in our Constitution. It's the thinking that I need to explain myself that has encroached on my Second Amendment rights as it is. Shame on you for believing I need to explain anything. If you don't like your own right to bear arms then don't, but don't judge others by your standards.

When you would assume the worst in people I need to assume the worst in you. If you can't trust me without knowing me, than you can't trust yourself, and I don't trust you. Maybe you are the one that doesn't need a gun.

Look at the Canadians trying to school me on American history. Yes our rights granted in the constitution are not given by man by granted by god, but you don't have to take my word for it, it is in the first Paragraph of our Declaration of Independence. Please understand when it comes to the Constitution, DOI, BOR, and American History you are sparring with Ali.

    .

    Oh and here again

    I guess the experts agree.....

Judging by OZ-T, cgs2K2, sofiasdad's reaction it is no wonder why this country is so screwed. Honestly sofiasdad, do you think banning guns will stop the violence? Can you tell me which has a higher mortality rate, victims of violent stabbings or shootings? (hint I already know the answer and it fits my agenda, not yours) The only mental health issue I see are an unreasonable fear of an inanimate object and not the people who do harm with them. Don't mind me though, I didn't double major in Business and Psychology and most of my electorates weren't American History classes, nope not at all.
