So I was parallel parking today, keeping an eye on the car behind me when I heard a crack. I was sure I didn't hit the car, so I looked over and bumped a pole on the sidewalk. Now I've got a small spiderweb dent and 6 inch or so crack in my tail light.

No big deal for me, these things happen and I'm driving this truck until it dies. I can deal with a little cosmetic damage here and there, I already have enough small dents and nicks from who knows where.

My question is, can I get a ticket for a cracked tail light? This is assuming it's all red light coming out, I'll have to check it in the dark. I'm in Califiornia, but will be doing a bit of traveling this summer.

I would assume you would get a fix it ticket first. Here in VA they have a warning ticket that doesnt cost anything to you, but is just a formal notice to get it fixed.

In CA you will if the cop is an asshole. If you step on your break and white light comes out, its illegal (cause it looks like backup lights). SO, get some of that autozone tail lamp tape and avoid the problem altogether.

I concur. That should keep you out of trouble while you take your time to find a cheap replacement.

I always thought it was red electrical tape and duct tape on the bumpers, I'll have to look closer.
