My Roadster Taco

Hi guys!

I thought I'd post something in the 5-Lugger section of the forum since it's dead . I've actually had my Taco since January this year but I wished I knew about this forum sooner. But so far, I'm loving my 4-banger taco and the best part is it does everything I want it to do. On occasion, I do haul some stuff and go up to the mountain, but mainly use it to commute to college. Sometimes I wish I had a 4X4 but I can't complain, I got the truck for free as a present hehe.

My parents got the 2006 Access Tacoma for me at around $13K with about 34K miles, in perfect condition. When I got on to the forum, I was kinda intimidated and jealous with all the offroading and more capable Tacos out there compared to mine, but hey, can't complain for a free truck. I do plan on modding this truck a bit more aggressive but road-friendly if you can call it that because of my daily 50+ mile commute. Plus, I'm a college student on a budget XD

• Tinted Windows (Possibly?)
• Receiver Hitch
• Bigger Tires (Possibly 235/75/15 or bigger depending on when I get the lift kit)
• FatBob's 2.75" Lift Kit or Total Chaos Long-Travel

• 225/70/15 BFGoodrich Radial T/A w/ MB Razor Wheels (Got the package at Discount Tire which saved me $400)
• AFE Dry Air-Filter (Loving it so far, throttle is so much more responsive)
• Fog Lights & Aux Lights (Need to get pics up)
• Window Visors
• Smittybilt Grill Guard (Looks awesome)

Looks good, but I bet will look even better after the lift and maybe some 31" tires

 

If you are doing the roadster, go look at RyanJoutin's build. He has a pretty nice lower on it. He tells you how to cut your springs and all that jazz in it.

 

Thanks! I will because I plan to keep it for a long time to come haha! I like it so far since it's very low maintenance - I've been changing the oil, rotating the tires, and everything.

none of us ride on cut springs. it's ghetto fabulous and dangerous. there are many other ways to lower your truck correctly

 

I love the five luggers like the person post above said the more you take care of it last you forever. I beat my truck but I checked every nut and bolt plus do all the neccary maintence on it still running strong

No, the guy above me though that I was going to make it closer to the ground, hence cutting down the springs, but that's not how you do it anyways. I kinda wanted to lift it instead.

I got my tires and wheels at Discount Tires, in all they cost around $1,000 BUT I traded my old wheels/tires in (got $400 back) PLUS got $200 rebate for the set, so in all, it costed me around $400 out of the door. But if you do plan to go to Discount Tires, make sure to visit their website for some package deals because they sneak some in without you knowing.

 

So, are those 225/75R-15 or 225/70R-15?

David, I think it looks great! All that matters is you like it and it treats you as well as you treat it! and you're right, no better price than free;-) I only wish I had a Tacoma in college!!

 

Bro I'm on the same page as you! I also got my Tacoma for free (gift from the parents) and I love it! I'm also a college student and I love driving that thing to college!!

If you want to know what you really want then I'd suggest looking through...Yes...All 50 pages of the 5-lug pic thread, look at our builds, look at other peoples builds too and don't hesitate to ask questions. I'm currently running 31's with a lift, My MPG is around 20 which isn't bad...but I don't drive 50 mi. daily.

Thanks, I have looked through a lot of the builds, kinda makes me jealous that I don't have the money to get the lifts, etc Ya, the 50-100 miles a day is kinda a bummer to me because I could be using it for long-travel, etc but hey, the time I'm done with college, I'll probably have a new truck

 

Yeah, I did my billet grill mod before joining...BIG MISTAKE! It stopped me from doing the Satoshi mod or any other grille mod for that matter. But I've had mine since the beginning of my Junior Year in high school and its held up great! I've put 18,000 miles on it since I got it almost 3 years ago. So just take care of it and do the mods that YOU want to do. By the time I'm done with college I hope to upgrade to a Access Cab 4x4 or a Double Cab 4x4 because the Tacoma is an amazing truck!

 

I might just save up to buy a new Taco down the line that has 4X4 and everything. I put on 20K a year minimum, so I'll be in the 170Ks when I'm done with school.
