As would I, blending the big picture in. My mortgage is a reasonable amount and I get the fact that interest on it is a tax writeoff. However, my wife and I are not 20-somethings either. I am 38 and she is 51. Don't want to see her have to work another 25 years because we don't pay extra on that.

I recently councilled a friend on paying off debt. Her problem is she owes so many different bills for one thing, but I told her pay off the small ones (200-300 each and she has 3 of them) faster. Then take that money and go after the bills with higher interest rates that are all around 4000 or so. Ideally she'd declare bankruptcy, but that's not the way she wishes to go and I admire her taking the responsibility even if I think she should at least think about it.

100%, pay the smallest one first and then take that montly expense and add it to the next one and so on an so forth. Next think you know youll have only one or two bills left and paying it off faster than you ever expected.

Right, and once you get to where all those bills are about the same amount pay the higher interest ones first if there's a big difference. In my example those small bills are for medical care she had to get and is unable to afford health insurance, so even better to not have that over her head in case she needs to seek care again.

On credit cards too, don't use the damn things for nonessentials. I'm not one to talk because I buy concert tickets all the time, but I pay those off the first month it arrives..and if I know I'm going to a few shows at the same venue I'll just order online for the first one, then buy the others when I go.

Last vehicle was a 2 door and I was a little upside down. My wife and I had a baby and a 2 door wasn't going to cut it.

There are more ways to make money then make the low interest load go faster. Like people said, inflation is what now? 2%? So some of these loans are interest free basically.
I made 10.75% in a mutual fund this year, 27% in direct investing, and 110K in 2.5 years of real estate. That's what I do with my extra cash

Well the 27% investing was with a small amount and some luck lol. But just heard a few good stocks from and older guy I work with who is really into it and they worked out. I hope when I dump a good sum in I make that much too!

I'll bet around 20-25k as I put 25k down on mine and my payment was about the same when I bought my 2011 new.
