Unless you do it spotty, like you hold the can extremely far away and dust it on, the light won't go through plasti-dip.

Supposed to be sunny all Saturday in Bham, so I'm doing my wheels and emblems + installing new headlights... and possibly blacking out rear, side, and handles if there is enough sunlight

i imagine this answer is in this thread somewhere, but it's 150 pages! so sorry if it's been asked but what kind of durability have people had with there plasti dipped wheels? how long has it lasted before being redone or just taken off because it started to peel? also any experience with touchless carwashes? they can be pretty high power.

    thanks.

I did my wheels abour 3 months ago and they look great except for one that had a flat and had to get a patch. If someone mounts or balances a tire on the wheel, some plasti-dip is going to get removed.

Going to recoat right now actually.

thanks guys, im going to probably do mine this week.
as for the re-coat, can you just spray the spots or do you have to rip it all off and redue the whole thing again?

I used the plastidip Smoke on some chrome, the below picture is after 4 coats, it was getting darker after each coat like what the web site says.

mmmk, so I went to the garage to respray the spots and realized my wheels were pretty dirty. Instead of cleaning and respraying, I just pulled it all off each wheel in about 20 minutes total. I left the black centers for now because I didn't have a lever to remove them. It actually doesn't look bad.

    Couple observations:
    1. Plastidip is amazingly easy to remove, and leaves the wheel clean with no residue.
    2. The only part that didn't come off immediately and in one piece was the angles of the wheels where they got some light coverage. I used about 1.5 cans total on all 4 wheels. I'd recommend applying coats until you've used up at least 2 cans and maybe 3 cans for 16" OR wheels. That would help guarantee the dip comes off easily and completely.
Haven't decided if I'm gonna recoat them or not, but if I do it'll be in black satin enamel. I like the black wheel look for sure, and the plastidip was a great way to try it out. I want something with a bit more shine though.

i'm going to use a can for each wheel to make sure i have a good solid layer.
might be overkill but it's so inexpensive that it's not a big deal.
