Someone in another thread brought up the subject of people who just can't drive. I see a lot of them, and I thought I needed to rant on it.

I drive 10 miles each way to work down the main boulevard, and it's between 6 and 10 lanes wide, depending on where you measure. Traffic moves at 45~55 MPH between lights and people tend to crowd you. I guess they figure it's just like the freeway, you know? People going 5~10 MPH over the speed limit often still feel the need to crowd each other in traffic. I don't know why people feel this need to crowd around each other. Fustration or lack of first-hand knowlege of what it feels like to be squashed in a car?...I dunno. They say some people just have to piss on the electric fence themselves.

One of the nice things about the DC long bed, is that it's long enough you can make the back end "waggle" quite visibly, just by twitching the steering wheel a mite. This usually makes people back off a tad when they're crowding me in traffic.

When I'm on the bike, sometimes I'll really waggle, 'til they think maybe I'm drunk or almost out of control. That makes them back off a lot. LOL

I think we need more people to monitor traffic. Volunteers, kinda like the Civil Air Patrol. If they see you driving like a dick, they punch your number into a database. If it happens frequently, they send you a notice that you need to attend driver's training again or lose your license.

IMHO, The real problem is that many people don't really care if they might cause inconvenience, annoyance, fear, or even an accident: because (first) nobody thinks anything will happen to them, and (second) modern cars are pretty dang safe at low speeds, and (third) if there's not a cop around they could care less who sees their crappy driving.

Now, if they knew people watching would do something about it, they might get their act together and learn to drive.

At work we'd never stand for this crap. I used to work in various shops and construction sites and factories before I became an office geek. If some guy on the job was doing something that put others in danger, they'd get straightened out in a heartbeat.

We don't have that same attitude about an activity that kills 10x as many people per year though.

none except for crappy hub caps and floor mats.
I work in Silicon Valley. The people here drive like dip-shits. There's a whole lotta' folks in their Mercedes and Bimmers who get up on your ass if you're in their way. I've lived in Cali for 9 years and I still haven't gotten over how bad the drivers are out here.

    Don't complain too much...

About a month ago I got hit by a drunk driver on my BRAND NEW (250miles) Kawasaki ZX-14. Spent 2 weeks in the hospital and am down a cracked kneecap and gall bladder.

Jackass that hit me was unlicenced, uninsured, drunk(.176, tested hours after he hit me), and left the scene....but they K9d his ass, LOL

yeah, people are idiots, just kinda have to expect it

I thought about asking the DA if they would drop the charges on the ass in exchange for 10 minutes in a closed room with me:) I doubt they'd do it, but I think it'd be funny.

And yeah, I'm gonna go after everything the guy owns, in criminal and civil court. But he lives in a trailer park and probably doesn't have a job...so oh well

I don't want some greasy drunk running around on my property. Other than to get that dirt out of my ditch, then get that dirt off my yard...that might be fun

    Don't let him drink!

You rent him out as day labor digging graves or something, chain him up at night & and feed him offal.
