Just bought a 09 tacoma prerunner. It has the sattellite radio antena, and the stereo has a Sattellite button. Do I need to buy a reciever to get XM? Can I get it anywhere but the dealership cause I'm sure they will be expensive.

Toytec ultimate lift kit, light racing UCAs, ARB bumper and full skid plates underneath. Looking into redoing the suspension and maybe repainting the ol' Taco.
If you have sat radio as a stock option, then you should recieve the signal now (for like the first 6 months or so). If you didn't get it as an original option, you will need to get a reciever. I think you can get one that plugs directly into the stock stereo without having to buy it from the dealership, though I don't know what brand or model.

My '09 came with the XM tuner built in to the radio but I had to go back to the dealer to get the XM receiver installed. You can also get it installed at stores like Best Buy or your local car audio shops, but I negotiated a better deal through the dealership. I got a 3 month free XM trial with the package.

Really nice feature, btw - but so far all I've listened to is the comedy channels. Lol.

On this same idea... what if it came with XM and I would like to switch to Sirius?

Why you ask? ;) Because we have Sirius in two other cars as well as our home Sonos system and I'd really like to keep it consistent.

XM and Sirius are one and the same now. I keep getting Sirius ads on my XM channels. Suppose you could cut a deal with XM to get just the Sirius channels?

You can definitely get a Sirius receiver for the stock head unit.
But as someone said, they Sirius, And XM are the same now.

Their billing isn't combined. I have three Sirius radios on one acct, the XM has to be on it's own XM account.

I suppose I'm a bit anal, I like consistency and not to relearn the channel numbers across cars. In my BMW's, I even have the presets set the same and the iPod playlists are the same as well :p
