Well it's my finances 2001 TRD SR5 3.4. She always a Tacoma 4x4 and after a little searching we came across a little diamond in the rough. General maintenance had been kept up, but was in dire need of love and a tune up.

    So the work began..

    New:
    Spark Plugs
    Air filter
Fuel filter & fuel treatment additive
    Transmission fluid
    Brakes & tires
    PCV valve

Truck was running amazing, well until a week ago. Started to lose power at highway speeds, intermittent rough idling like my diesel almost. Had it scanned for codes, nothing. So I bought new plug wires. Well when removing the drivers side front spark plug, my hand slipped on the ratchet and it hit the positive terminal on the battery, shooting sparks everywhere for a split second. Checked all the fuses, none blown. Still idling rough, now has a check engine light. Had it scanned to be a p1135 air/fuel sensor o2 sensor.

So bought a new o2 sensor and on the drive home the transmission seemed to be possesed, not wanting to shift then shifting back and forth within seconds to holding high gears when trying to start from a stop. Made it home, replaced the o2 sensor, light came back on after a couple seconds. Still showing the p1135 code, and demons are in control of my transmission...

    The truck:
    2001 TRD SR5 4x4
    Automatic with 155k miles

    Help!!!

If you put a K&N or other oiled style air filter in it I would suggest cleaning the air flow sensor. Clean it regardless actually. Oil from these filters sometimes can coat the sensor and cause all kinds of funkiness. The transmission issue could very well be incorrect fluid level. Double check it. Wouldn't hurt to drop the pan and check for friction material on the magnets too. While in there it would be a good idea to put a new filter in too. Refill it to the proper level and hope for the best. It's supposed to be an "old wive's tale" but I know a few people who have bought semi-high mileage vehicles with automatics that shifted fine. They bring them in for a transmission "flush" and within a few weeks they need a new tranny. Hopefully that's not the case here. But it's why I only ever do drain and fill services on any of my automatics.

That's actually an excellent suggestion. It could be the idle issue and it also sends signals to the transmission via the ECU.

How? Not exactly sure where or how to adjust it... well I know where it is, and I guess it's not adjustable via what google has to say... No cel for the tps, only for the o2 sensor, which I just replaced this afternoon...

i know with a good scan tool not an advance auto one the scanner and check it the voltages and something about the voltages determines how it works

You'll have to get your hands on a good manual. Usually they put out a signal at idle, part throttle, and full throttle. I doubt it's gone "out of adjustment" unless you have been messing with the throttle body. But it could have failed.

Did you disconnect any of the ground wires on the air intake plenum when replacing the plugs? Did you re-attach them?

Try disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes to let the ECM reset itself.

Use only a denso O2 sensor.

And just which spark plugs did you use? Please don't say bosch.

    Yep it's a denso...

Used ngk plugs and tried resetting the ECU..

Well I finally broke down and took it to the dealership, I fried the ECU.. So roughly $1700 to fix, should be done on Thursday.. Hopefully nothing else!

always cover your battery with a rag or a rubber floor mat, it keeps this from happening. Not a jab, just good common sense info

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
STOP! $1,700 for a 01 3.4 ECU? Call an auto wrecker and get a used one for $150. Tell the Dealer to go F himself. [IMG]
