Well yesterday I changed the oil and looked underneath my truck to prove if my earlier suspicions were correct, sure enough they were. I have wet oil spots on the oil pan right under the timing cover and I seen a wet spot behind the power steering pump where the block and timing cover meet. 2010 tacoma guys beware and look yourselves 25,800 miles on the clock, 4.0l engine.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
That's not good. Honestly I'd get under there and snug up the pan myself.

Just checked, back of my oil pan is wet. Dropped the stock skids and I found another wet oil spot just under the AC compressor right above the steering rack. Not sure if the oil migrated or is two separate leaks.

There was a guy from Hawaii on here who had symptoms like this. Was leaking through passages formed from machining the block or something to that extent. Toyota ended up installing a brand new shortblock under warranty. Time for a trip to the dealer to see what they say. Have just under 30k.

Here is the post from the Hawaii guy http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...1gr-fe-oil-gallery-leak-initial-findings.html

Here are some pics of my leaks. Not sure if there is migration of oil from front to back or if it is comng from two different sources - edit -sorry for the massive pics

This is looking at the front of the engine at the bottom on the drivers side, Idler #1 and AC Compressor in the picture

Another angle of the same area

Rear of engine, looking at oil pan and bell housing. This was after I cleaned it up quite a bit trying to look for a source

Looking "up" at the bottom of the oil pan, lots of oil and debris

If you guys are still under warranty I'd just take it back to the dealership since this is a known problem anyways. Like I said, they fixed mine without any hassle.

Have you had any issues with leaks since then?

Well I am have an appointment to take mine in on 11/12. Last I look at mine it looked like it was coming from the right side of the cover. But it also looked wet under the harmonic balancer too. So I might have the same leak as Oscarbob.

Well stealership says that seepage is normal. That enough wetness around the timing cover to cause drips of oil to blow back on the oil pan, but not drip on the ground is not a leak. I call B.S.. Then when I asked to talk to the mechanic they got all fluster, especially when I talked about the drips of oil.

I thought it was part of a TSB? Mine only leaked a few drops on the ground but they fixed it without any problems.

My opinion is that the mechanic didn't want to do it since is a rather time consuming job. He just kept giving my excuses when I would counter what he was saying. I have been around cars all of my life, I know what an oil leak looks like. Its not a bad one yet, but its still a leak. The first thing they tried to say was it was from someone changing the oil and spilling it on it. B.S. I changed the oil and did not spill any on it.

I hear yah. I thought it was part of a Toyota TSB so you might want to look it up and if you can get paperwork on it then I'd print it out and take the truck back to them. I know its a slow leak but its still a leak and they need to fix it.

Typical Toyota quality and lack of dealer effort. Call corporate and get a claim number. They will insure the dealer does it's job.
