Good luck getting 20 mpg average with any fullsize. A guy at work is getting 16.5 with his new F150 Ecoboost, and I thought it was supposed to be about the best. It does run like a raped ape though.

I'm a big guy and have this problem once in a while. My '08 4runner's doors were probably 3 times heavier making it almost impossible not to slam the door. Now I have to hulk out just to get my Taco's door shut.

Tacoma seams to be sealed better then any other car. So closing doors with all windows closed seems to be hard. When my kids are leaving the car I open window, and even my 5 year old can close doors after that. :D

On the side note When I bought my Truck I was thinkign 10 years then I am gonna see how its holdign up. But if last 6 years are indication for another 4 years. I am probably looking at 20 years owning that truck.

Wow - I guess one can save a whole lot of beans, going with the base model. Check out my Fuelly badge on my signature. One of the things I like the most about my Tacoma! :)

In fact, I'm kind of experiencing the opposite of some folks. This is the biggest, roomiest rig I've ever had AND it gets the best MPGs. (I'm pretty sure my old Nissan didn't do this good - and that thing was shrimpy by comparison!)

The Tacoma is built with horrible quality and is not a good truck IMO.

Cabin noise from rattling POS plastic parts is unbearable at some times
POS plastic parts scratch easily and are painted thin
Entire truck has a sub par paint job
    Leaky engine gaskets
Leaky steering rack and underpowered rack all together
    Wheel bearing design sucks
    Door seals suck
Engine is underpowered and has numerous deficiencies including sub par bearings and sub par oil pumps
Leaks water at cabin air filter
cabin air pump sucks "click click click"
interior cabin gauge lights are sub par and blow out after 4years
starters are not "sealed" as they are marketed
    poor cam tab design
    poor LCA bushing design

think I could go on all day, but alas I am out of time to list the problems I have had with mine....

    For what ?

A apples to oranges comparison between a 4cyl stock reg cab and a lifted DCLB 4x4 with 275's , a commercial cap and 300 lbs of tools ?

Being a Toyota truck fanboy since 1974 and on my 4th I must say all were of stellar quality in build and reliability, rarely having any issues at all. Upon stumbling across this forum awhile back I can say I'm pretty darn disappointed with the quality or lack there of these days. I was fully expecting to purchase a new Tacoma in the next year or two, but am rather hesitant after reading all the issues. XXXX's post above is indicative of the frustrations being experienced. I'd be pissed to if I had so many niggles in my new truck. Just a look at the sticky on "steering wheel shake" and all the agreeing views in the posts scares the crap outta me. An acquaintance of mine with a 2007 and 80k miles has clutch issues already. I've never had a clutch issue in the combined hundreds of thousands of miles I've driven my four toys. The complaints of the stick shifts trannys is disheartening to say the least. The drive shafts vibrating? WTF? It's been noted many times over by many people and some the day the truck came home with them. Build quality and reliability has seemingly taken a back seat from what it used to be.
I guess I'll be hanging onto my 04 for as long as it continues to make sense then maybe explore other options for a new truck. Maybe in a few years Toyota will get their act together. I hope so. They used to make the most reliable and dependable trucks of top notch quality on the road.

I hear that too sometimes - I read somewhere on the internet that it is actually the ABS system somehow calibrating/testing itself?

Not sure what it really is but having retired my trusty old Nissan due to intermittent excessive knocking, I can say this is much more manageable.

Love the gas mileage, love the looks. The truck is extremely manuverable and does everything I ask of it. There are a few small things I dislike, such as not being able to get bucket seats with the manual transmission, and no SR5 option for regular cabs kind of sucks, but ultimately those are nitpicky things for me.

I think after I get a few mods done to the truck I'll be 100% satisfied.

I love my truck, but, I bought it in 2005 and they don't have an in cabin filter, so I have some issues with my A/C system which is annoying when it is really hot, but I can work around it to an extent.
I love my truck so much that when I hit 100k and I was thinking of getting a diesel, I just had the V6 ripped out and put in a 4cyl 1KD-FTV Turbodiesel
If I ever total this truck I will kill myself.

I purchased my '12 TRD OR 4x4 AC in March and enjoy the truck more every time I drive it. I know some people have had issues but I have nothing but great things to say about mine.

Learn a thing or two about a engine and then you'll know what it is.
When a engine is cold the oil is thicker and has to reach the uppers so a little noise on initial cold start is normal.

Once warm the little clicking noises you hear are your injectors, valve train, some times even the exhaust. An engine is mechanical. It makes noise don't worry you have a warranty. It if sounds like a power stroke ford the be worried
