I am a process improvement and weld programmer engineer for a John Deere supplier. Interesting job but I really want to get into maintenance or field engineering so I can keep my hands dirty all day.

I've been in the auto/industrial parts business for 10 years. And thats about 9 1/2 years too long.
Been considering military or do what many guys my age do in Western Canada, go to work on the oil rigs in Alberta. Although open pit mining and the jobs there look more enjoyable.

Just learn all you can and be motivated, willing to travel, and show it, and you will always have a job. I know guys who work 8-10 months out of the year, then take a few months off..because they can afford it from being out on storms in different parts of the country, or traveling doing substations and outages. my friend was home twice in 9 months, for about a week. then came home and took deer season off. not all linemen are like that though..he is just a storm chaser lol.

and if you get in the apprenticeship, learn all you can! trust me hard work pays off, Im an apprentice but i know lots of journeyman lineman and wiremen and they tell me the same thing lol..and most importantly be safe and aware of your surroundings at all times ! Good luck!

nah, we deal mainly with designing the site work, stormwater etc.. none of our clients ever want anything fancy, they want the bare minimum they need to get their permits to build hahaha
