^^ Brett - those last three shots are sweet. Those were the exact times that day I wished I brought a nice camera.

...and please let me know if there's any issue with my MLS onboarding :p

...and I really need to get my bumper and grill installed. My truck is starting to look like a ballerina compared to the other rigs.

Will, the wifey has been in Connecticut for the last week now getting all fixed up at a specialty place. She was injured on the job. While back there, she got a call from a place that she was trying to get on with in bellevue (some pet insurance thing), and they told her the position had been filled but another one opened up.

anyway this is the first time ive been on here since last sunday since i have been working some long days and taking care of animals when i get home, then going to bed. pics of the last run you guys did look like i could even make it in my stocko taco.

^^ You are correct. The last run was purely for the aspect of going to Lester and doing some exploration. We passed an Acura Integra during the day if that is any indication. Wasn't meant to be a challenging trip at all. Toughest part (if any) was the 4-5 miles we hiked around which was frankly pleasant.

Now to drum up some ideas for another future trip...

There is a little bit of trail up there around NF9020 (see my post #28 on this same thread) but it does not branch out very much. It does end at a cool little shooting range near the top.

The other main trail from that exit is Tinkham Road. If you look at aerial maps, it appears you can head south on Tinkham Road at Bandera which opens up to a bunch of other trails - however when I tried going up that way it had a locked gate at the small quarry where people are always target shooting. I was bummed actually because if that gate were unlocked, we might be able to pick our way down to the ghost town of Lester without traversing over Stampede Pass.

FYI I really liked the hike around, it's fun to do a variety of stuff!

I looked at your ghost town site and they listed Kerriston as a place that requires 4WD

For Tinkham, you can ask all.on.black, he goes up there just about each year.

Exit 38 used to be amazing for exploring, before the washout. That used to be my main camping exit, and you could literally explore trails for days, I've got some great pictures from time spent exploring up there years ago.

As far as going south on Tinkham goes, you're talking about NF-5510, which can be accessed by Exit's 42 and 47, and does end at the rock quarry. It's unfortunate that it ends at that gate, because I've ridden my dirt bike around it and there is unbelievable scenery and more endless trails back there.

I'm ready for some snow wheeling, I ordered some chains that are supposed to be here in the next couple days.

Speaking of both topics, my wife and I are planning on heading up 5510 to cut down our own Christmas tree. We haven't decided on an exact day yet, maybe the Saturday after Thanksgiving? Or maybe sooner, depending on how much snow the mountains start getting. If anyone is interested in the doing the same, I'll keep you posted. Tree cutting permits are $10 for up to a 12 foot tree.
