2007 Taco - ABS/Brake light on, no reason?

Was driving down the road at around 35mph when I noticed my brake light and ABS light were shining red. I pulled over, checked the parking brake, it was fine. I drove a little, tested normal braking, seemed all fine. What type of error is this?

Check your brake fluid level and fuse for ABS.

The fluid is full, fuse is fine. The lights go off if the vehicle sits for awhile, when I drive it around and it warms up, the lights turn on.

 

It could be one of the wheel sensors went bad, or a problem with the skid control ECU. I read in the owners manual that if the ABS system detects a fault within the system it disables itself for safety sake.

I wish I could tell you more about the wheel sensors. I know some guys unplug one sensor when they wheel their trucks to disable the ABS when they offroad. A simple visual inspection may be helpful.

Hello all. I got my fist Tacoma im from costa rica and I bought it in the states. The abs and the break lights are always on. Could you guys help me out with this. Does someone know what could it be??
Also the car didn't bring the owners manual, does someone knows from where can I find it??

Also for those of you who did the ABS wheel sensor switch mod to disable ABS do your lights stay on even when the switch is allowing the wheel sensor to operate?

 

Anyone find a solution? My 06 has the same problem, haven't checked the fluids yet will do tomorrow!

Check if the sensors are pluged in. The problem in my truck was that one of the cables was cut so I just fix it then disconect the battery to reset de computer and the light was gone.

 

I had the same problem a few months back but it turned out to be the brake fluid was low. It was still within the min-max limits, but on the lower end. Filled it up to the max line and the light went off.

 

Does your SR5 have a locking rear diff? I'm not familiar enough with the options to know.

This is a bit of a recurring issue for the sensor that indicates if the rear diff is locked or not. It either fails or gets gummed up and sends a false signal. Normally when you lock the rear diff the ABS gets disabled automatically and the warning light comes on. The remedy is to clean or replace the sensor and it's a trivial task, screw out, clean, screw back in.

If you don't have a locking diff, then its probably fluid levels or electrical as the others have suggested.

 

Unless it's a custom option, I don't believe the SR5 was ever offered with a locking rear differential. The mechanical limited slip was an option in certain years up to 2008 but never the locker. That is specific to the TRD Off Road package. It looks like the OP has an off road so that could be his issue, but for anyone else reading with just the basic SR5, that is not your problem.

 

Did anyone find anything else to finding a solution to this and problem? I have a friend with an 08 and same thing ABS turns on at 35mph after resetting the abs light by jumping pin 4 and 13.

 

Any definitive solution to this problem? My truck just started having the same issue yesterday. Mine is a 2007 TRD offroad SR5 4x4 with rear diff lock. I checked the brake fluid and filled it up a bit, it wasn't that low.

 

Found this shortly after. It sucks 2007 is on that list.

It is recommended to replace the sensor with a factory part and be sure to clean all rust and debris from the mounting area because the mounting distance is critical. Failure to do so may result in the new sensor setting false trouble codes. Be sure to check the condition and runout of the front wheel bearings on the 2WD and 4WD vehicles and the CV joints on the 4WD vehicles since worn wheel bearings and/or CV joints can cause the ABS trigger rings to rub against the ABS sensors and damage them.

To be honest about this, it isn't just those year models and it isn't a defect. What they are describing is called normal wear and tear and it could happen to any year model vehicle with higher mileage.

 

Never said it was a defect. Normal wear and tear for sure, unfortunately that it happened to my 2007. I filled up the brake fluid to full and so far so good, no ABS light. Knock on wood. Will see how long that lasts.

 

A lot of times the ABS sensor, which is magnetic, gets covered with metal filings and just needs cleaned off.
