    Hey I just took my 4 cylinder Tacoma for a little run through the woods and like all Toyotas it was a Champ!
    However 2 min out of the woods my truck just stop excellerating basiclly it was like it wasn't going in gear. I tried 2x2,4x4 and 4 low and they all had the same response.
    Basically I can put my truck in gear 1st 2nd whatever and take my foot off the clutch and my truck wont even stall or excellerate when I give it gas, just the RPM's go up.

    Truck starts fine sounds good, but it seems like its not getting engaged in a gear, is my clutch blown?

    Any Ideas?

    FL Forester gave a sound input. I seconded it. Sounds like your clutch is burned , or the Tcase is stuck in neutral. You may want to drop the tranny and look at the clutch.

    none except for crappy hub caps and floor mats.
    There's a remote possibility that you could have gotten some water up in the bell housing which would cause it to slip. Couple of questions: Is the transmission actually engaging the gears? Do you smell anything burning? Do you hear anything when you engage? I'm wondering if you screwed up something with some of the linkage.

    I like Chris' idea. I think the tcase is stuck in nuetral. Especially since you were just offroad when this problem started, JMO. Good luck.

    Being as your engine light is on, go have the code scanned. It may be more cost affective to buy one to keep on hand. You should be able to find a decent one for around $100.00

    Is your clutch hub seperated from your clutch pad. Sounds stupid huh? LoL Happened to me.

    Could put it in gear and let off the clutch, but no action... Probably not but...

    Try the transfer case like they said already. Good Luck.

    Edit: Just realized a couple things. Sorry for being late... 4 banger and 1st gen. I don't know if yours could have seperated like mine. Anyways, I was just throwing it out there. Sorry for being uneducated. :( :D

    yeah, hook up a OBD2 scanner and get the code, then look it up to see what tripped the CEL. Might tell you the problem or at least put you in the right direction.

    Any auto aprts store should carry OBD2 scan tools. Get one. Personally, it sounds to me that your clutch is fried.

    OBD= On Boad Diagnostics port; The '2' stands for 2nd generation OBD port. The original OBD was pre1996, 1996 and newer have OBD2.
    CEL= Check Engine Light.:cool:

    Nope, they wouldnt. you have to have it engaged some way. Ex. 2hi, 4hi or 4low without hubs would still give 2wd, or locking the hubs in 4hi or low will obviously give you 4x4.

    So I went outside, manually locked in the front locking hubs, transmission in 1st, xfer case in 4 high works great, transmission in first and 4 low works great, transmission in 1st x fer case in Neutral no go, so I stand corrected. All this on a 1999 v6 4x4 manual trans and hubs
