I will be installing the maxtrac spindle lift fairly soon and the back spacing required is 4.5 for the wheels which the stock rims don't have, and I don't want to run spacers so new rims will b purchased.... I notice the 16" rims are more opt to have the back space and tires with 16" rim setting are cheaper I've heard and seen... Are there any downsides to running 16" rims? Most likely pro comp or American eagle

There's really no downside to running 16s. It usually boils down to preference and your overall budget. A lot of times, guys run 17s b/c they prefer more wheel(aesthetics) than tire and/or for caliper clearance. As long as you have the proper BS needed and you pick the correct size tire for your particular setup, you're good to go.

Ok I see... In my case would I have to worry about caliper clearance when running this set up?

It all depends on what calipers you're currently using and also which exact wheel you plan to purchase. 9/10 you should be okay as long as the wheel has the proper BS.

Careful of the pro comp rims, they are hit and miss on the 16's clearing.
