what is everyones thought about Colt AR's? i am looking to buy a reliable "off the shelf" AR soon, i was looking at a colt ar-15 5.56 with flip up/down rear sights, fixed front sight, and basic magpul setup, and adjustable stock.

i dont need a rifle with fancy optics or flash lights or stupid lasers, just need it to shoot well, and be accurate up to 300m

colt has a good solid reputation w/ ARs, ...they tend to run a bit more in cost though than most of the field...

also, not sure what you mean by "accurate up to 300m"... unless you're going to shoot at the national matches or some long range competition w/ it, i'd suppose most any make will fit the bill - unless you're using match ammo, accuracy at "minute-of-bad-guy" should be good enough for most ;)

Colt is the standard. Its what I recommended to my neighbor for his first AR. I remember a few years ago when 6920 LEs were fetching about $1200. So 1000 for one is a good deal in my opinion. It is also worth the piece of mind that your rifle should be good to go straight out of the box. My neighbor's rifle that I advised him on.

I run an old TAG one, but tactical applications group is no more. The other TAG makes decent stuff. Eagle, HSGI, SOE are all good. Check out www.optactical.com

Single points are good for CQB where you'll be changing firing shoulders often, downside is that they flop around on you when no hands are used.

Two point is more versatile and allows you to tighten up or loosen the sling to fit your shooting position. I prefer the VTAC wide padded sling.

This, you can go from 1 pt to 2 pt in the matter of seconds. Also the Magpul MS 2&3 slings are the same basic concept.

I am leaning towards the MS3 after looking at some youtube videos and reviews. Seems like you get the best of both worlds in a matter of seconds.
