Satoshi'd grill. blacked out badges. aftermarket sound system. De-chromed and color matched. OME 885s + Dakars with 3rd leaf removed. LR UCAs. Scs stealth 6 with 285 duratracs. BAMF sliders

since the tires are only rated to 8.5 wide wheels, what problems will arise from this?

Do you have the P-Metric version (P265/70R17) or the LT version (LT265/70R17). Michelin says that the P-Metric version is approved for up to a 9" wide wheel. The LT version is approved for up to an 8.5" wide wheel.

Just read the sidewall to be sure, but if they aren't LT tires then you don't need to worry about it. They'll be approved for a 9" wide wheel.

No problems will arise from running a 9" wheel, regardless of P or LT. That .5" will make absolutely zero difference in anything.

The caveat is you will likely rub, even with your mud flaps removed. Not enough that it can't be easily trimmed away if you're willing, but be prepared to either rub some, or trim some.
