Ben tried something last night in the chat with the staff section that got me thinking. Could there be a private thread option? One where we could chat among a chosen group of members. The moderators could still have access to keep an eye on things, but the OP would be able to choose the other thread participants. It would make for an easier way to chat with a group outside of mass PMs, which can get a bit cumbersome.

I really like that idea! I hate group PM's, it just makes my inbox blow up when everyone starts responding.

It also gets confusing when people respond out of order of other replies.

This sounds like a good idea but I think there will need to be a Private Thread section only visible to mods and the invited members or there will be mucho butthurto from trolls unable to crash threads and all the excluded members will be made to feel awkward and that just won't be right. Nevermind, let them cry. Then there will be butthurt threads about the private threads and that'll be so entertaining.

It would allow a select group to discuss private matters more easily and avoid inappropriate comments. Say if you have a group of 10 people with whom you need to communicate. At present, you can only PM 8 at a time. On top of that, PMs from 8 people tend to get jumbled, out of order and hard to read.

Could be great for group buys also. The vendor could start a private thread and invite the people that signed up so he could update them on pricing, shipping info, etc.

Good Idea. I had mentioned something similar a while back about the OP being able to "ban" certain members from commenting in their thread if they started to derail it.

Pugga's idea is great as well about the group buys.

Some forums have a section for 'premium' or paid members so it can be done. Usually for less moderated postings.
