I still think the hitch mounted game hoist is the way to go. Lift the animal up, get it heading into the bed and pull it in as you let the hoist out. You'd never be moving the animal's entire weight and it's easily removable. Otherwise, a custom bracket that uses the bed bolts to the frame wouldn't be hard to fabricate. I would think you'd want some sort of roller at the tailgate though.

Jesus you guys over complicate shit.

A simple steel tube, with a good wall thickness, spacers underneath, bolted at the front of the bed using the existing bed bolts. Mount your winch to that. Run a line from your battery or put an extra battery in the bed.

    Done

    Cheap

    Easy

Can be made by most anybody with a drill press

Buy a cheap winch if you need to save money

    Go hunt

    Enjoy your venison.

 and for even cheaper you could use a come-a-long instead of a winch.

Exactly, put an eye bolt in the tube.

A harbor freight ATV winch is pretty damned cheap and it doesn't matter if it dies one day.

I still think you should put a roller on the end of the tailgate or the bed, whatever the cable will be dragging over to protect both the cable and the tailgate. On the cheap, a piece of PVC pipe cut in half will work for a while as a sliding surface.

What about mounting a boat trailer winch (the hand crank kind like you use to pull the boat onto the bunks). Cheap and strong enough to pull up most anything that will fit in the bed.

install front d-loops..stretch a cable across and attach a pulley..then hand winch from outside the truck?

    FEW

    ive read what U want
    what some say

the hitch is only weight rated in ONE(1) !! axis
    if U were to p/u 500 ........750...... maybe even 1000lbs
    far exceeding the hitch capacity

    U could plate the bed
actually put 1/2 plate top & bottom
    sandwich the composite bed between
stil the bed might fail...........full sized pick upz with sheet metal no better

attaching to frame NO great assurance
the Best rigs are ' center mounted ' usually between the front / rear axles
neccesitating working off the side or having quite some length in the boom itself

yes for years ' corner mounts ' were built & used
trucks turned over quite a bit
ive run 60ton winches & cranes for years

no less the more angle U get from vertical
    the longer the boom
the LESS U CAN LIFT SAFELY !!
its the ' Leverage ' another response mentioned
    sometime 4- 5X or more

no less U dont mention accomodation of ' Stiff Legs '
