Wifey got a weird phone call from an Attorney.

I think the call was a scam and a bunch of bull shit!

How can I verify the actual attorney?

Call the law firm or google the name of the firm. If they're using the same name as a scam, then you'll likely find other people reporting it. If they were asking for personal information, don't give them anything!

Just call the credit card company and have them cancel the number. Then get a new number.

Could it be a loan was taken out in your wife's name? prior to this call, and this is an attorney (odd) that is calling to collect. (should be a collection agency).

It sounds like your wife could be victim of identity theft.

I would do a credit check for you and your wife and start canceling cards. It is better to cancel them now and deal with getting new ones, than it is to clean up identity theft.

    ^^This!!

Loans go to collection before they go to litigation. You would have heard from the collections people long before you hear from their lawyers. Suing people takes time and cost money so most lenders try to avoid it generally. Call your credit card company NOW, put a fraud alert on you and your wife's credit (you can do it through any of the big 3 credit companies and it's free).

    neglect, mostly.
    ^^^

    ASAP

if it is real and they try to charge you and the account has been removed, then boo hoo, your credit score get's hurt a little. then you fix it. if it's a scam, and it sound's like it is, they could hit you hard. . . at least she did use a credit card and not a debit card.

Yep. That's what I figured. Hopefully they didn't get too much of it. But, I am guessing it was used in a jewelry place in India (or close).

That might not be a bad thing... Hopefully they're just calling to report it, not because something actually happened.

You learned the hard way but never, ever give info out over the phone. If a place is legit they'll mail you information.
