My mother often asked me this when I was a boy, as a way of keeping myself entertained...I guess it stuck with me.

I work 60 hour weeks, and go to school part time. Life can be really dull, so I try to ask myself this question everyday to keep things new and interesting. I think of it as the best natural anti-depressant out there.

I figured it would be cool to have a running thread to hear some answers, and to have people keep posting every so often to update us. So let me ask you guys...

When was the last time you did something for the first time?

Can you elaborate? I didn't mean for everyone to just post the date/time, but rather tell a short story or a few lines about it.

I guess for me lately it would be things I've been experiencing the last 8 months. My little boy is 8 months old and it seems like he is doing something new almost daily. I love every single second of it too. I'm 33 now and I've always been anti kid but man has that changed. I still don't like other peoples bratty kids but as I sit here at work he's all I can think about. I can't wait till lunch so I can hurry home and have a few minutes with him then the same after lunch until 5. :) Really changes your outlook on life and your thought process. Thats why my truck is still sitting here mostly stock because I can't stop spending my money on my boy!

The last time I did something for the first time was about 3 months ago when my father in-law took me to the shooting range. It was the first time I got to shoot a firearm!! :woot:

It only took 31 years, but now I am hooked. lol

    DEEP POST:

One of the ways I interpret "Carpe Diem" is that everything you do, you do for the first and last time. You'll never do ANYTHING EXACTLY the same way, ever again.
Daily activities, breathing, even mundane tasks, you're doing for the first time that exact way, and you'll never do exactly the same again.

Like drawing a 1 inch line, you'll never draw that line that exact same distance ever again, for the sole reason that to some decimal, that length will be unique; albiet because of the type of writing utensil you're using or the blood pumping in your hand.

similar to buddhist ideology that nothing lasts forever and the notion behind unique snowflakes :)

    TL;DR
YOU'LL NEVER FART THAT HARD, OR THAT SOFT, EXACTLY THE SAME, EVER AGAIN

That's gotta be cool, besides the accident itself of course.

    oil change...

I feel the same way. My little boy is 2 1/2 years old now and he is currently being potty trained. Its up to me and my wife to make sure and take him to the bathroom every hour so he doesnt pee his pants... its more work for us than it is him.

Ive recently started running and I try and never run the same path twice. I always try and change it up some.

A few months ago I remodeled my kitchen. Ive never done anything like that ever before! Very rewarding too once its put back together and you are able to use it!

Sunday was the last time I did something for the first time.
I drove a side by side ATV.

We had a blast at Sand Mountain. The Can-Am Maverick is 101HP of pure fun.
Chris decided she didn't want to drive & didn't want to ride with me (she thought I might get a little crazy with it). She was going to go with the lady of the quad rider couple we met while waiting for our turn. Since the lady didn't hop in one in time she lost the driver seat to someone else. So the lady ended up riding with me & Chris rode with her husband. The tires were over inflated & I made the mistake of getting one of the two with accessories (this one had a soft top, stereo, GPS, mirror, extra lights on top & in front as well as skidplates). When I did the test fit of the tripod (on a base model) I had it setup to look over the roll cage. After I strapped it to the one I drove I realized it had lights on top so I lowered it and the rear view mirror was in the way.
I got it over 55MPH and would have gone faster if there wasn't someone in the way. Got it airborne a couple of times.
This thing is fast with plenty of power, handles great & is very comfortable.
Maybe when we are done remodeling the house we"ll get one.
